Kirkwood

At Kirkwood Mountain Resort it’s all about the skiing and powder. It receives on average 9m of snow each year! When it snows, Kirkwood can pile up snow totals that are so high they are almost unskiably deep. The resort's focus is the skiing, whether you’re looking for progression or steep and deep, Kirkwood has it all, particularly for advanced to expert riders. Unlike other resorts in Tahoe, Kirkwood is relatively under-developed. It has a very low key, friendly die hard skier vibe. Don’t expect too much pampering or glitz and glamour, expect amazing terrain.

Accommodation Kirkwood

What makes Kirkwood so charming is its underdeveloped village. The central village is small with a handful of hotels and condos spread across the base area. The Mountain Club is located slope side and offers the best mountain access. Room sizes vary to accommodate one and all, from hotel-style rooms, to larger, two-bedroom condos.

Skiing & Boarding

Kirkwood or “the Wood” as it is known by locals is all about the powder, one of the highest snowfall averages in the world. When it snows, Kirkwood can pile up snow totals that are so high they are almost unskiably deep. Whether you’re looking for progression or steep and deep, Kirkwood has it all –from calm, groomed, beginner runs to hair-raising cornices and cliffs, there’s something for everyone at "the Wood." We would recommend spending a few days here and combine with nearby Tahoe resorts- Northwood, Heavenly or Squaw Valley.

Activities

Kirkwood is still an evolving ski resort in terms of facilities/activities. Aside from skiing, there is a year-round zipline and canopy tour.

Getting There & Around

To get there, take one of many daily flights from US cities into Reno-Tahoe International Airport then jump on a shuttle for 90 minute drive to Kirkwood. Alternatively, if you’re driving from San Francisco, you can be at the resort in three hours If you’re planning to explore the Lake Tahoe area while you’re there, you’re best to hire a car – shuttle and bus services are available.
