Methven offers great skiing and boarding, Mt Hutt is the closest and most well known resort to Methven, there are also several club fields within 2hrs drive of Methven. 

Mt Hutt is one of the largest and highest ski areas in the South Island and a big mountain experience for skiers and snowboarders. It boasts 365 hectares of wide-open terrain and plenty of leg burning runs plus monster snowfall and spectacular views over the Canterbury Plains. It is perfect for every age and ability and fantastic for families with supervised kids’ programmes and Early Learning Centre for children age 3 months & up. There is also a mini park for rookies and intermediates whilst experts can hit the features in the advanced park. Many say, you have not skied New Zealand until you’ve skied Hutt!

Methven Heliskiing is the closest heliskiing to Christchurch and the Arrowsmiths terrain spans 3 mountain ranges. Nowhere else in NZ (outside of the Mt Cook area) can you find the glaciated high-alpine heliskiing terrain that Methven Heliski offers. Methven Heliski offers runs for all standards of heli-boarder and heliskier, beginner to expert with over 1000 square kilometres of terrain.
