Canazei, Val di Fassa

Canazei is one of the main ski villages in Val di Fassa, set beneath the dramatic peaks of the Dolomites. It’s lively, well set up for visitors and offers direct access to the Belvedere ski area, which links straight onto the famous Sella Ronda. The village has a good mix of traditional alpine character and modern facilities, with plenty of restaurants, cafés and après options. It’s popular with families, couples and confident skiers who want easy access to big terrain while staying in a friendly Italian mountain town.

Canazei also sits within the wider Val di Fassa ski area, which forms part of the extensive Dolomiti Superski network.

Accommodation Canazei

Canazei offers a broad range of accommodation, from simple guesthouses and self-contained apartments to comfortable four-star spa hotels. Many properties are within walking distance of the Belvedere gondola, while others are connected via ski bus. The village has a relaxed but energetic feel, particularly during peak season. Families will appreciate the good access to ski school meeting points and beginner areas, while couples and groups often enjoy the convenience of staying close to restaurants and après venues. Most mid-range and higher-end hotels include wellness facilities, which are ideal after a full day on the slopes.

Skiing & Boarding

From Canazei, the main access point is the Belvedere lift system, which links directly into the Sella Ronda circuit. This makes it easy to ski into neighbouring valleys such as Arabba and Val Gardena without removing your skis. Intermediates will find plenty of long red runs perfect for cruising, while stronger skiers can head towards Arabba for steeper black runs and more challenging terrain. Beginners have dedicated learning zones lower on the mountain, with ski schools offering English-speaking instructors. Because of its central location on the Sella Ronda, Canazei is a great base for skiers who want to cover distance and explore new terrain each day. Snowboarders will enjoy the varied terrain and wide pistes, along with terrain parks available across the broader Dolomiti Superski network.

Activities

Off the slopes, Canazei offers winter walking trails, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the valley. Tobogganing is popular with families, and there are ice-skating options nearby. The village also has a public aquatic and wellness centre, along with several hotel spas. In the evenings, Canazei has one of the livelier après scenes in Val di Fassa, with a mix of casual bars, traditional mountain restaurants and pizzerias serving classic Italian and Tyrolean dishes.
