Accommodation St Moritz

St Moritz Style

St Moritz exudes luxury and glamour. St Moritz Dorf is the pick of the villages here, with its ice lakes, the surrounding majestic Swiss Alps and beautiful hotels. St Moritz Dorf is home to Switzerland’s highest concentration of 5-star hotels, each of them with breathtaking views from beautifully designed and prepared rooms, and excellent facilities. Within this village you’ll also find some more affordably priced 3 and 4 star hotels. If you’re looking for more affordable accommodation, it’s worth considering the outer lying areas of St Moritz Bad, Celerina and Surlej. Although St Moritz Bad is far from beautiful, here you will find plenty of apartments to choose from, all within a quick free bus ride of the main centre of St Moritz Dorf.

Skiing & Boarding

St Moritz ski resort comprises three resorts: Corviglia, Corvatsch and Diavolezza, with the majority of terrain best suited to intermediate skiers. Corviglia is St Moritz’s most expansive ski area with 163km of runs, most of them wide open, groomed and ideal for intermediate skiers. Corvatsch at an altitude of 3,301m has breathtaking views and is the second biggest area. Accessed by cable car from Surlej, from here you can ski down the Corvatsch glacier or over to the Furtschellas area. Advanced skiers will love the off-piste run from the top station. Diavolezza is for advanced skiers. Small and furthest from the main village, here you can ski top to bottom. A guide is recommended for the top to bottom run because it’s necessary to cross a glacier involved. For beginners, St Moritz has several magic carpets, snow-play areas, and ski schools.

Activities

If you’re feeling energetic, St Moritz has plenty to keep you busy. Here you can snowshoe, hike, toboggan, ice-skate, curl, or experience bob sledding… the sledge run at Muottas Muragl is one of the longest and fastest in the world? Enjoy a round of indoor golf, go hang gliding, kite skiing or heli-skiing… the possibilities are endless. For more leisurely options, St Moritz has unsurpassed shopping, restaurants and wine bars as well as world class galleries, cultural walks and museums. Feeling like being pampered? Venture into one of the luxurious spas in the village. And if you want a laugh, check out the historic Cresta Run, an amateur sled run which encourages participants to race head first down an icy track near Celerina. This is pretty much a men’s competition though women are allowed to compete once a year, by invitation… it’s well worth a look, as is the snow polo, cricket, horse jumping, horse racing and more that takes place on the ice lake.

Getting There & Around

To get to St Moritz fly into Zurich or Milan, then take a train or shuttle on to the village – a journey of around three hours. It’s also possible to fly into St Moritz airport in a private plane, or on a commercial flight from Zurich, Munich, Milan and Geneva.

Our staff love...

St Moritz is one of my favourite ski destinations! A well-heeled resort with plenty of international visitors, 5 star shopping, skiing and plenty of non-ski activities. Plus incredible scenery. There are three main ski areas – Corviglia (closest to the town), Corvatsch and Diavolezza (about 50 minutes by bus). Corviglia is the largest of the three resorts and is ideal for families and intermediate riders with plenty of wide groomed runs. For the more advanced skiers, Corvatsch is a must! End the day with a run down the Hahnensee a 9km long descent and very popular because of the view over the Engadin lakes. A trip to Diavolezza is also a must for advanced riders to ski the 10km galcier run down to Morteratsch train station. Be sure to check out the Snow Polo if its on while you are there! Don't miss afternoon drinks at Muottas Muragl, the panorama is seriously stunning! If you are game, take a ride down the 4km toboggan run!
