Accommodation Val d'Isere

Val d’Isere has a range of accommodation, from luxurious hotels and mountain style catered chalets through to self-contained apartments. Much of the accommodation is at the more expensive end, so it’s probably not the place to stay if you’re holidaying on a tighter budget. The central village of Val d’Isere is the best place to stay, particularly if you are bringing children as this is where you’ll be close to the mountain’s facilities, including the beginners’ slopes. The central village is also home to childcare for ages 18 months to 13 years, the ski schools and the Aqua Complex. Alternative accommodation can be found in the villages of La Daille, which is well connected to the slopes and lifts, and the tiny hamlet of Le Fornet. Shuttle buses will get you between La Daille, Le Fornet and the central village of Val d’Isere.

Skiing & Boarding

Val d’Isere’s ski area is connected to the entire area of Tignes, which means you’ll have endless terrain, with plenty of off-piste and steeps to explore while you’re here. This sensational ski resort has 140 marked trails serviced by 97 lifts and the longest run is a thigh burning 5.5km. If you’re up for it, be sure to have a go at the super steep Bellevarde run, which was the 1992 men’s Winter Olympics downhill course, and head out to the back country, where you’ll find some pretty demanding cross country trails. If you’re new to skiing or boarding, your best bet is the beginners’ area, which is conveniently located at the base of the mountain and close to the village facilities and accommodation. Form here, venture to one of several areas known as “Piste Tranquille” for some gentle runs. Don’t miss a ride on the Leissiers chair, which will take you up, over a ridge then down the other side… and back if that’s what you’d like to do.

Activities

Being a ‘Famille Plus’ destination, there’s plenty to keep your kids busy and entertained at Val d’Isere – starting with the ice rink right in the centre of the village. Here they can also enjoy ice climbing, snowshoeing and dog sledding, and even experience the thrill of ice driving – as a passenger of course! For a more relaxed time off the mountain head to one Val d’Isere’s spas or the Aqua Complex where there are saunas, steam rooms and massage as well as a play pool, a lap pool and a gym.

Getting There & Around

To get there, fly into Chambéry which is two hours from Val d’Isere by airport bus, or Grenoble, Lyon and Geneva, all of which are around three hours’ drive, by bus, from the village. If you’re travelling by train, disembark at Bourg-St-Maurice, which is 30km from the village and from here you’ll be able to catch a bus.

Our staff love...

Val D’Isere -Tignes has a vast ski area, 5 times the size of the Canadian Resorts, with extremely reliable snow which is now covered by the Epic Ski pass, so you can ski the Vail Resorts and Val on the same ski pass. The hotels & lodges are all located either at the base of the ski lift or a short stroll away. Apres Ski is legendary in Val, try La Folie Douce on Mountain at La Daille for lunch with live music, DJS, and dancing in ski boots or in the evening try the nightclub Dick’s Tea Bar, or Cocorico, Bananas, the Pacific Bar, Moris Pub or Le Petit Danois. If you feel like casual dining then try one of the little hole in the wall Creperies. A hot crepe with sugar and freshly squeezed lemon juice is a fabulous snack, when one just needs fill the gap while bar hopping. Fondues and tartiflette are delicious warming and satisfying local indulgences.
