Visa Waiver Program - UPDATE: December 5, 2011.
THERE ARE TWO SEPARATE INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS FOR TRAVEL TO THE USA
United States Visa Waiver Program
You must complete this yourself: All eligible travellers to the United States (including those in transit) who wish to travel under the Visa Waiver Program must now apply for authorisation using the Electronic System for Travel Authorisation website, visit
https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov
. Beware of scam websites and type this URL exactly. A US$14 fee applies for each application.
ESTA applications may be submitted at any time prior to travelling to the United States, however it is recommended no less than 72 hours prior to travel.
Travel authorisations are valid for multiple trips within a two year period, or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. Prior to travelling, you should update application details, relating to your next trip, on the website.
Although not required, it is recommended you print a copy of your authorisation number for your records and carry it whilst travelling. Travellers who do not apply for and receive a formal travel authorisation ahead of their intended departure date will not be able to board a flight to the United States.
United States Secure Flight Program
As a separate requirement, your passport information must now be entered into your flight bookings at least 72 hours prior to departure, for all flights to and within the United States. We will enter this in your flight booking, for flights booked by Travelplan. If this information is not entered on time, boarding may be denied. Please notify Travelplan urgently if this has not been done. Passenger names in your booking must be written exactly as per passport. If you have a redress number issued by the United States Department of Homeland Security, please provide this. The redress program is for individuals who have encountered misidentification and screening problems at airports.
