Breckenridge - a great all round resort

Written by Robin a Skier from Melbourne, Australia

This was our 3rd Colorado ski trip and there was agreement in our family that this was the best so far. We fondly remebered Steamboat, and with younger children it had a good ski school, including park lessons, and access to the NASTAR race course. We also enjoyed the ski-in ski out experience of Snowmass and vast terrain (across 4 resorts) as well as getting the the X-games. However, Breckenridge had the best of both. We stayed at 'One Breckenridge place' in a large condo close to Main St station and 5 mins walk from the chairlift. The town was also only minutes away on foot (or by free shuttle if you prefer) which was great for restaurants and shops. The town is beautiful if you see it after fresh snowfall and don't miss the 'International snow sculpture' contest if there in late January. The terrain on the mountain is varied, with plenty of black and double black runs, skiing above and through the trees but also with long sweeping runs for less ambitious skiers. The park skiing was excellent for our teenage children, although the queue for the park lift at weekends was long and slow. Elsewhere was a little busy at weekends but mid week was quiet (late Jan). Access to Keystone (good tree skiing) and A-basin is easy by free bus from town centre and only takes 30 mins. The summit value pass was a bargain is a must. While we love to explore new destinations, this is one place we would all be happy to revisit.

Beavering Away in Breck

Written by Jarrad a Snowboarder from Melbourne, Australia

Brckenridge consists of four peaks, which is to expand to five peaks by 2014 season. There is plenty of varying terrain and I was not bored for a minute. Easy, free access to two other local resorts and simple to organise shuttles to places such as Vail and Beaver Creek.

The town is very quaint and the people are friendly. I found Breckenridge to be geared a little towards families and those seeking a quiet holiday. If you're looking for hard partying you may want to seek another destination.

The Beaver Run resort was also top notch in terms of location, service and facilities.

I would definitely return to Breck for another season.

Breckenridge

Written by Andrew a Skier from Sydney, Australia
30/4/2012

I had never heard of Breckenridge, given it is less known than Vail or Aspen, but I am so glad I chose it above the others. Not only was it closer to Denver in terms of accomodation, it was a real town with more than just skiing to offer (which suited my wife)... and it was cheaper. The skiing was terrific with a vast, well laid out terrain and modern lifts.

The temperatures were usually about zero, so the snow was firm powder without getting mushy and soft powder on days when it snowed. It was also perfect for my kids with little kids, tree runs and had a few double black runs for thrill seekers. It has a great terrain park for boarders, though being spread over 3 interconnecting peaks, it was well spaced out and we felt like we had the resort to ourselves at times. There is even a toboggan-like run there for non-skiers and a half-pipe competition in January.

Finally, our dollar made it so affordable, so it definitely worth revisiting.
