Excellent location

Wonderful property in excellent location. close to gondola, restaurant & shops. Nice outdoor Jacuzzi. Staff were helpful & friendly. Only complaint was that hotel froze funds when we checked in as per normal & after we returned home 10 days later still had not been released. Took a phone call to effect this. Otherwise i could highly recommend this property.

Heavenly - big mountain & big town & big views

Written by Margie a Skier from Sydney, Australia
25/2/2011

Don''t go to Heavenly if you like small initmate ski resorts.  This is a VERY BIG (and not a pretty) town on South Lake Tahoe. Resort facilities are great, but the crowds were too much for us (do not go during any holiday period - even weekends are crowded).

Skiing is expansive, but a little inconvenient to get around the mountain, particularly at the end of the day when you need to get back to the gondola from the California side.

Varied terrain might interest families and views are better than the photographs!

If you do go to Heavenly, you MUST VISIT Kirkwood - fantastic skiing!  The Marriott was superb but will charge you for parking US$24+ per day.

The Lodge at South Lake Tahoe & Heavenly Ski Resort

Written by Graham a Skier from The Basink, Victoria, Australia.

The Lodge is conveniently located with a shuttle bus stop right outside the door. Cross the road to go to California Lodge or just step outside the door to go to the Gondola. Amenities include a spa and free  internet access (fast and reliable - fast enough to use skype to call home!). A full kitchen and an easy walk to the supermarket make this an ideal place to stay when skiing Heavenly. Heavenly has long runs and a sufficient variety to suit skiers from novice to advanced. Yes, double blacks to challenge the adventurous and long intermediates to cruise for warmups and for the end of the day when the legs are starting to turn to jelly. It also has one of the cheapest season passes. You only need to ski 6 days to be ahead of daily lift prices. We stayed for two weeks, skied every day and experience waist deep powder snow in the second week.

There are so many decisions to make at Heavenly. Will it be the 55km of wide open groomed cruisers, the 1,600ft plunges in the double-black Mott and Killbrew canyons, or the most incredible tree skiing anywhere? Some people are drawn by the multipule progressive terrain parks and families enjoy taking a spin down the Heavenly super tubing hill, accessed by a 565ft long elevated magic carpet?

And all of this happens before the sun goes down. When night falls there's a virtual "Pandora's Box" of choices and temptation. On mountain exhilaration turns to après ecstasy in the form of Vegas style casinos, all night dance clubs, world class entertainment and five star dining.

Heavenly will test your decision making abilities like no other winter destination, but remember to choose wisely. There are only so many hours in a day, and night so make them count at Heavenly.
