5 days in Hakuba

Written by Sally and Michael a Skier from Sydney, Australia
We had 5 days in Hakuba at the end of February and stayed in La Neige. Although we thought it was expensive for a japanese ski resort hotel we were really impressed with the rooms, the views of the forest and the service. However the food in the restaurant was terrible - we couldn't understand the need to do a western breakfast . We would have loved a japanese breakfast. We had drinks by the fire on a couple of occasions, but the drinks expensive and we were annoyed being charged $10 for a tiny bowl of nuts. However, the staff were so friendly and would drop you to nearby slopes to ski or to onsens and the ski shop. The restaurants were fabulous and cheap. The wine was $25 per bottle. It's prettier than Niseko but the snow was disappointing (unusual we gather) but we really enjoyed the longer runs on Happone and the powder in Cortina. It was not worth paying for a guide - expensive and a short day. We discovered more runs on our own. The bus return to the airport was so easy and comfortable but you need to work out the connections. The bullet train was also efficient but 2 or 3 changes are necessary.

Spring Skiing in Japan

Written by Lesley and Pete a Skier from Melbourne, Australia

We had fantastic service from Travelplan, particularly from Leah, very responsive and helpful. This was our first Japan Skiing experience and Travelplan made it a wonderful experience with everything fitting in the right places.

The travelling was without any hitches and all on time, accommodation in Tokyo was very central and easy access to trains etc. The only warning I would give to that is to make sure you nominate non-smoking if that is what you want, whole floors of smoking rooms at the Plaza Kaio Hotel.

Loads of snow at Hakuba and no queues for lifts although they were all running even with reduced crowds.

Our visit was from 10th 18th March and this is late in the season for a lot of the operators so lots of nightlife and restaurants had already closed. Those that were open were great, particularly recommend Mimi's at the Pheonix Hotel, went there twice!!!

Luna Hotel was comfortable and the staff were very good and helpful, menu was unimaginative and more western than we would like so only ate there once and the bar was very quiet as they did not have many guests.

Leah organised equipment hire and the lift passes, again great service when we got there and everything worked well. We also did a tour to the Snow Monkey, Sake Brewery and Temple, again very well organised, interesting and worth doing.

We will definitely go back to Japan and to Travelplan, thank you again.

One of the best

Written by Kathryn a Skier from Adelaide, South Australia

Getting there was so easy with a pick up from the airport and dropped right at the door to the hotel. Did take a lot longer (8hrs)than originally thought due to weather and traffic in Japan, but a lovely drive to sit back and relax.

The hotel was fabulous and all the staff were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble.

The location was so close to the lifts, just a short walk up the street.  The restaurant was lovely.  A great range to chose from the buffet at both breakfast and dinner.  Lots of other lovely places to eat within a 5 min walk.  The Onsen was so relaxing after a days skiing.

Plenty of things to see and do in and around the area.  The monkeys in the hot springs are a must.

The snow and mountains were excellent and it was easy to get around.

The town was a lovely walk approx 15 min from the hotel Couldn't fault anything about the trip or the ease in which it was all booked for me.

Thank you.
