Furano March 2014

Written by Robert a Skier from Melbourne, Australia
28/03/2014

Snowed all week. Great quality powder.

Rooms simple but worked fine.

Bus from Sapporo to Furano 2.5 hours. Better to fly into A……. airport which is 1.5 hours away. Japan airlines economy is quite good.

Shuttle bus system works well and can explore Japanese town - not just a ski town.

Very uncrowded runs. Good grooming so that fresh snow is not groomed out. Can still find untracked snow at the end of the day.

Limited on mountain lunch venues but great ramen etc at base for about $A10.

Not (yet) full of Australians - keep it a secret.

Furano more locals than tourists

Written by Nicola a Snowboarder from Australia
26/02/2014

We wanted to go to a resort where there were more locals than tourist and this was definitely the case in Furano.

The accommodation was fantastic, very clean and directly across the road from the lift. It was about a 30 min walk to town good to stretch the legs after a day riding but buses run as well.

Thanks Travelplan we loved our time in furano and the powder was fantastic.

Furano - Great Skiing, Minimal Tourists

Written by David a Skier from Adelaide South
31/01/2014

We went to Furano for a change from Niseko. The skiable terrain is smaller but there are far fewer people. We went at New Year but after the first monday in January it was like skiing at your own private resort as all the locals had gone back to work/school.

The snow is similar to Niseko and it is a great resort for families. Less nightlife and quieter.

The resort is an easy 15 minute walk from the town of Furano where you can pick up all food necessities plus anything else you might want. Easy access via bus from Sapporo and the trains go to the town as well.

Chalet Fuyuri is ski-in (via the back of the groomers shed) and a 5 minute walk to base of lifts (basically flat). We had a great time. I'd recommend about 4-5 days after which you have probably skiied all the runs. The 101 person gondola is fast uphill and a different experience outside Europe. Enjoy !

The town of Furano, 5 minutes by taxi from the resort remains largely untouched by outside influences. Combine Furanos back drop with everything the resort has to offer and you have the ingredients for a great skiing holiday.

Furano offers great culture and entertainment activities, great sightseeing, delicious restaurants, fun bars and the warmest people you are ever likely to meet. Furano is a fantastic small town with a great world class ski area; it is not a ski resort with a small town.
