Action packed honeymoon!

We had a absolutely fantastic honeymoon at Kicking Horse! Awesome terrain, great ski school instructors and a relaxed vibe that was our style.

The Travelplan team were very knowledgeable and did a great job putting together our stay in Canada.

Kicking Horse is Awesome

Written by Geoffrey a Skier from Ivanhoe, Vic, Australia Skier

I''ve just returned from two weeks at KHMR, following on from two weeks in Feb 2011. The hill is the best I''ve skied anywhere for several reasons, (1) terrain, (2) quality and quantity of snow, (3) lack of people especially midweek means no queues, (4) friendly relaxed atmosphere, and small intimate nature of the resort.

The hill has good terrain for all standards of skiers/riders, but it really is mostly about advanced and experts. I wouldn''t class this as a "family mountain". After opening the Super Bowl this season (making 4 alpine bowls to play in) there are now 85 chutes inside the ski area boundary. It''s like having access to back-country skiing without all that hiking! Many of the double black chutes would be triple black on other hills!

One slight downer is the lack of a shuttle bas service to the local town of Golden. So you''re stuck at the resort area if you don''t have a car.

All in all Kicking Horse is brilliant a hill for the serious skier/rider. I''ll be going back again next year.

milson kicking horse and CMH trip

Written by Guy & Tina a Skier from Australia

Kicking Horse. Arrived in Calgary at 6.25pm to be met promptly by Pure travel rep. David. At that stage we had been travelling for 26 hours and had not eaten that well. When we suggested to him to allow us 3/4 of an hour to allow us to get a meal at the Delta Hotel, he informed us that he, by law, could not drive after 12 midnight and that we would need to leave immediately as he would run out of time. Needless to say, this was rubbish as he was able to get us there by 10.25 pm to find all the food places closed in Kicking Horse. But, after a bad start, it was all great after that. The Moutaineer Lodge was excellent, the Phat Camp skiing program was great value, the food at the Cork restuarant was to die for, no queue lines, great snow and very friendly people. To such an extent that we are thinking of taking our whole family plus friends back there in Jan. 2012. Great advice there Abigail. Then onto CMH with the Ross Grant group at Bobbie Burns. To summarise, fabulous, famous and never to be forgotten. On the last Friday, we skied in Camelot conditions. Even the guides said it does''nt get any better than that. Wonderful snow, bluebird day and skiing in God''s garden.Enough indeed.

Truly a skiers mountain!

Written by Pam a Skier from Byron Bay, Australia

There was no fresh powder (I''d missed out by 1 week) when I was there in late January but plenty of snow. I''m a deep snow skier who had to ski bumps all week but I have to admit they were great moguls - made by good skiers so you can ski the rivers with big turns or take the fall line. Good snow grooming maintained the piste for my better half who doesn’t ski bumps – long steep piste runs provided plenty of challenge for intermediate/advanced skiers.

Its a huge resort – my hot tip is to latch onto some locals and follow them all over the mountain (thanks John & Dennis) – I did and found brilliant slopes in out of the way places and long, long, long runs – perfect warm up before a week of heliskiing.

Big mountain with a warm small village atmosphere. It is truly a skiers mountain  - the local beer is great and the restaurants offer good variety but because it’s a small resort the choice is limited unless you go down the valley – the Bar at Glacier Mountain lodge had great pub food and was our favourite night spot and you couldn’t beat the Japanese Restaurant/café for lunch.

Kicking Horse is a Real Skier''s Hill

Written by Geoffrey a Skier from Melbourne, Australia

I''ve just returned from 13 days at Kicking Horse, B.C. and was very impressed by the ski hill and our accommodation.

We stayed in Glacier Lodge, and had a true ski in/out location. The ski locker room and drying facilities were the best I''ve encountered in 35 years of skiing.

The ski hill is superb for experienced skiers, not really a place to learn to ski though. With something like 70 named double-black chutes in-bounds...nowhere I''ve been comes close to that. Also some excellent blue and black runs as well.

Snow quality and quantity remained good top to bottom throughout the 13 days, even though we only got two small falls of ~10 cm each during our stay. No crowds at all, ski straight onto the lifts every day except Sat. Often found myself with deserted runs, even deserted alpine bowls!

A great place for the serious skier/boarder...I''ll go back next year.
