Big Red Cats

Fresh tracks, deep powder, and no lines - cat skiing and boarding at Big Red Cats provides all that and more, just 2.5 hours north of Spokane, WA at Rossland BC.!

Big Red Cats is the only snowcat operation in BC that offers separate trips for expert, advanced, and intermediate skiers and riders, you can enjoy exploring the backcountry with others of a similar ability.

Big Red Cats invite you for a day of incredible skiing and boarding through open glades, big open slopes, tight trees and huge alpine features. Unlike most cat skiing operations Big Red Cats tailor their tours to suit your ability and fitness level.

Big Red Cats operates over 5 full mountains on 18,500 acres of some of the best tree skiing and glades in the world, so you can explore the area with day-trips, or week-long packages and base yourself at neighbouring Red Mountain ski resort.

What makes Big Red Cats different?

They are a day-trip operation very close to a resort, so it is easy to ski at Red Mountain and Whitewater as well.  While they do day-trips, there are also discounts for multi-day bookings
They are less expensive than most other good cat operations
They offer separate trips for expert, advanced, and intermediate skiers and riders - to maximize your experience
They have 4 fast pisten bully snowcats, and a full-time master mechanic, so breakdowns are rare
They have 18,500 acres of terrain, with cat roads to 7 peaks, and all aspects

Every week Big Red Cats have the following tours for your skiing or riding pleasure.

Intermediate: For those who ski blue runs at resorts with confidence, and who will try some black runs, but with less finesse.  Guests should have skied in deep snow at least once before, but if not, the guides are happy to give some coaching tips, and a tail guide is around to help you get up again in the pow.  You will be introduced to the backcountry gradually, with cleared, easy slopes to start, then progressing to widely spaced trees and more advanced runs if the group is ready for it.

Advanced: Most of the groups are advanced, or advanced/expert.  Guests at this level ski almost exclusively on black diamond runs at resorts, with a few double-blacks, and they like to go off-piste when the conditions are good.  Advanced skiers and riders may choose to launch off a few small jumps and like snow-covered logs, but generally don't like big drops.  You will be skiing well-spaced trees and glades, and some open bowls.

Expert: Experts are double-black diamond skiers and riders at resorts who have significant off-piste experience and who are in good physical condition.  While there is always a way around most of the cliff runs, many experts seek them out.  If avalanche conditions are stable, you might rip down steep avalanche paths and open bowls, and if not, you will be wherever the conditions are the best, which may be in the trees.
