1.5 Feet Of Champagne Powder® Snow Propels Steamboat Past 200-Inch Milestone

Nearly 17.5 Feet of Champagne Powder® Snow Has Fallen in Ski Town, U.S.A.® Since Oct.23

The New Year has come in like a lion with more than 2 feet of Champagne Powder snow piling up in the first ten days of January, including a whopping 17 inches at mid-mountain and 18 inches at the summit in the past 48-hours.

“The storm that rolled through Steamboat-Ski Town, U.S.A. this weekend made for one of those special Champagne Powder snow experiences that powderhounds in the ‘Boat are frequently accustom,” said Rob Perlman, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation. “It was light, dry and deep, deep, deep.”

Steamboat surpassed the 200-inch snowfall milestone for the season this morning and is in a storm cycle that as of 5am yielded 11 inches at mid-mountain and 10 inches at the summit in the past 24-hours; 17 inches at mid-mountain and 18 at the summit in the past 48-hours; and 25.5 inches at mid-mountain and 26 inches at the summit this month.  The resort is reporting a 67-inch base at mid-mountain and 84-inch base at the summit on powder conditions.

Steamboat is arguably enjoying some of the best snow conditions in the Rocky Mountains with the largest mid-mountain base of the major Colorado destination resorts,” continued Perlman. “With a variety of special packages, passes and programs, there are plenty of ways to ensure you share in the excitement of this season’s legendary Champagne Powder snow.”

The 2010/11 season started with a powdery bang as the Steamboat Ski Area surpassed the 100-inch milestone on Nov. 30th due in large part to the snowiest November on record, which saw 90 inches of light, fluffy and super-dry signature Champagne Powder® snow pile up at mid-mountain that month. The powder has continued into the New Year with snow falling 7 out of 10 days in January.

Since November 1st, snow has fallen 44 out of 71 days with 21 of those days recording four or more inches. So far this season at mid-mountain, Steamboat has seen 21 inches in October; 90 inches in November; 73 inches in December; and 25.5 in January for a combined total of 209.5 inches (17.45 feet).

Forecasts are calling for a chance of snow today through this evening with very cold temperatures ruling the region through Wednesday. The next storm is anticipated to arrive later this week as a weak disturbance brushes the northern Colorado border.

Steamboat is serving up heaps of Champagne Powder® snow and package values almost as deep as the snow!
