GREAT STAY AT VAIL

Written by Peter a Skier from Sydney, Australia
02/03/2014

My wife and I have just returned from a fantastic ski holiday in Vail.

We stayed at the Landmark which is very conveniently located at Lionshead village.. very close to the Gondola..The Landmark is great value..

Vail mountain is very large with a huge variety of runs to choose from and then there are the back bowls with great powder skiing...they have runs runs groomed in the bowls...so that you can still experience bowl skiing if you are feeling tired..the restaurants are great and the free shuttle bus service works well..

we'll be back!!

Couldn't be easier!

Written by Pauline a Skier from Bilgola Plateau, NSW

Fantastic holiday with amazing snow!

The Landmark is in a great position so close and easy to get to the slopes at Lionshead. The bus stop to Vail Village was also virtually outside the door. The staff were friendly and helpful. We loved the outdoor hot tubs! The only down side is that entrances to Condos are outside the hotel on all floors which makes it a bit cold when returning from the hot tub!!

I would recommend and use the Landmark again.

Manor Vail - as near to ski in-ski out as you can get.

Written by Alison a Skier from Sydney, Australia
26/02/2014

We loved Vail! The mountain offers so much skiing for all ability levels and the on-mountain restaurant options were equally varied and all great!

Manor Vail is a VERY short walk to the lift (leave your skis at the lift, even easier!) and provides direct access to the back bowls, allowing you to beat those coming in from Vail Village & Lionshead, not that there was ever a crowd.

Restaurants were excellent, bowling at Bol a must and dinner/movie at Cinebistro great fun.

Great family holiday!

Vail and the Sebastian

Written by Harry a Skier from Canberra, Australia
26/02/2014

Had 10 days at the Sebastian in Vail. This was one of, if not the best accommodation I have stayed in at a ski resort. First class and the services and staff were exceptional. If we go back to Vail this is the only place I would stay.

Thanks to Travelplan everything went smoothly including our transfers from Denver.

Vail mountain was good but they could have been better with the grooming.

Brilliant season at Vail

Written by Elizabeth a Skier from Sydney, Australia
29/01/2014

Really really great snow, lots of powder. Absolutely world class resort - no doubt.

Arrabelle was good, brilliant location, it very comfortably fit all 5 of us, especially when compared to apartments at Antlers and somewhat The Lodge at Vail. But for the additional cost I'm not sure it was worth it. The decor is predictably 'American Ski Chalet', the service was very similar to what we've experienced elsewhere in Vail and of course you end up travelling into Vail village for many restaurants and services. I'd like to explore other options that might suit us for next time.

Great holiday thanks to travelplan

Written by Martin a Skier from Melbourne, Australia
27/4/2013

Back from holiday and had a great time.

Just to thank travelplan (Fiona Fraser) for all your organisation. Prior to the holiday booking, I received much help with determining the best accommodation and rates.

All went well on holiday with no problems. The apartment in Vail was one of the best I have stayed in, well positioned and service was excellent. And the ski pass through travelplan was almost half the price if bought at the lifts.

Vail - One BIG Mountain

Written by Mark a Skier from Sydney, Australia
18/3/2013

Vail is huge and has a terrain for everyone. There are moguls, long groomed runs, bowls of powder and tree runs.

The food can be very expensive but there is a good Deli in the main street that has reasonable and delicious sandwiches.

I forgot the name but there was a steak resturant where I had one of the best steaks in my life. It was as soft as butter.

The Nordic skiing at Vail is OK. It's on a golf course. Not that scenic and most people will need to catch local bus to get there but it's not too bad.

Vail

Written by Margaret a Skier from Como, NSW, Australia
14/3/2013

This was our first time to Vail and we were dissapointed in how the runs connected. Lots of traversing required. Not much in the way of groomed runs and the blue runs were not as steep or long as Aspen. We had to contend with large crowds at the lift queues and lunch spots. The Sebastian was good, but our room had a ''smell'' about it & the air conditioning was impossible to regulate.

Fantastic time in Vail

Written by Natalia a Skier from Sydney, Australia
13/3/2013

Our family of 5 (including kids aged 5 and 10) had a fantastic time in Vail in January 2013. We usually go to Whistler and this year decided to try new things. Vail seemed to be a safe choice in terms of how highly it ranks as a resort and indeed it did not disappoint.

The snow conditions were fantastic - bright sun and blue skies - although we wished there was some fresh snow towards the end of our 10-day stay. We bought Local Epic lift passes, which include 10 days in Vail - this was a much more cost-effective option than buying a full Epic pass.

The Vail village is gorgeous, very Swiss Alps-like with a lot of artwork displayed outdoors, which makes a walk through the village a cultural event.

The mountains are beautiful with plenty of very wide runs. We also loved tubing and kids snomobiles - we did both on our last day and it was a great way to end the trip.

Would have liked to see better restaurants at the bottom of the Village gondola - the self-service place with 3 food choices seems like a waste of a prime location.

The hotel had a wonderful homely feel with superb service. Breakfast could have had a wider selection - gets a bit boring after a few days.

Loved the ski concierge - excellent service and a great convenience.

For some reason the village didnt seem busy, even on the public holiday weekend, which was great for skiing, but a little quiet for nightlife. All in all, a wonderful stay and skiing.

Even in average conditions Vail shined through

Written by Stewart a Skier from Sydney, Australia
30/4/2012

This is the fourth trip ski trip we have booked through Chris D at Travelplan, but it was the first to Vail. Although the season didn't start as strongly as we would have liked, we still had a ball in Vail. The resort is very well run, there is a great selection of restaurants and the skiing is sensational.

From the top of the mountain you can look out to the Back Bowls and Blue Sky Basin and it seems to go forever. When the whole mountain is open (and this is most of the season) you could ski here for a month and not get bored. There is a great break up of intermediate & advanced/expert terrain and it is mixed in well on each mountain, so you can ski with a family on the same lift.

We stayed at Montaneros and the apartment was great and the position perfect. We had read that the resort was expensive but compared to Australia and with a strong dollar we thought it was quite well priced. Our tip, grab the resort bus and take the quick trip down the road to a much bigger supermarket, also the snowmobiling was fantastic.
