Steamboat 2013

Written by Philip a Skier from Lane Cove, Sydney
30/4/2013

Thanks Travelplan for your help in organising this. Everything went very smoothly. The flight and transfers worked well. The go alpine transfer to Steamboat was excellent both ways.

The accommodation at Bronze Tree was excellent, as were the communal facilities. We had enough snow so that it was literally a ski in at the end of the day and in the mornings we only had about a two-minute walk.

So you had two happy customers.

My only problem is that the whole family are excited to go again January 2014.

Steamboat for Beginners

Written by Heather a Skier from Perth, Western Australia
30/3/2013

Had a terrific time learning to ski here - everything was great, the weather, the locals, the instructors - amazing. Only thing I would have liked to know beforehand is that our lessons were booked for the busiest weekend of the entire US ski season (Martin Luther King long weekend in January)so it was super crowded.  We were flexible with our dates so if we'd known that beforehand we would have booked a week either side of it. But all in all, it was still a great trip. Heaps to do there apart from ski as well.

Great value Trip to Steamboat

Written by Phil a Skier from Bonnet Bay NSW, Australia
25/3/2013

Recently returned from 17 nights at the Steamboat Grand organised by Travelplan.

Stayed in a studio which is plenty big enough for 2 people. Very reasonable rate, hotel facilities are good, and breakfast included.

Travelplan organised lift passes and I received a number of comments from mountain staff and locals as to what a great deal we got.

We also got a heap of snow, not sure if Travelplan organised this. Would highly recommend, and I will be using them again. Obviously their buying power converts to big savings for us.

Bucket list destinations

Written by Chris a Snowboarder from Gold Coast, Australia
18/3/2013

After travelling a good portion of the world USA was certainly a place we wanted to return and being snowboarders Steamboat Colarado was our pick.

The flight was long and takIng a 1 year old made it all the more harder.

The access was relatively easy, Steamboat Grand was a short transfer from the airport.

The town was very hospitable and the boarding it had to offer was incredible. The hot tubs, natural hot springs, shopping, social entertainment and relaxing in prstine environment made this place a bucket list destination.

My Dream Ski Holiday

Written by Karen a Skier from Sydney Australia
15/3/2013

Dreamt of a holiday in steamboat since I saw it on a "Today" show at home in Sydney. They said it was a town with a ski resort, rather than just a resort, and that is true. Western feeling and hospitality, with everything you could want in a resort.

Went with my 13 year old daughter who wanted to snow board. That's not for me, so she went to ski school while I headed off with "The Gang", a group of over 50s skiiers who were so friendly and welcoming!

Couldn't rate the night life much, was too tired by the end of the day, but plenty of restaurants, and the Steamboat Grand was fantastic, centrally located and with everything you could need! Loved it!

Steamboat a great allrounder

Written by Bruce a Skier from Sydney, Australia
14/3/2013

Really good snow. Lots of powder in february and a good location allround.

I dont really think the main trails suit beginners but they are good for all other levels. Having said that the setup for kids schools and all teaching are exceptional around the base area.

Reasonable apres ski and off ski fun activities. Great value and scenic destination but does take a bit of travel to get there. I prefer lodging on the mountainside so as to have the night views of the ski area. Transport is not a problem with free shuttle pick up and drop off at the front door for most big lodges till 11pm, usually within 10mins of contacting the service..

Steamboat February 13 snow dump saves the day!

Written by Tony a Skier from The Hills, Sydney Australia
13/3/2013

I have not long completed my 8th trip to Steamboat and again we were not disappointed with snow condition after a 3 day dump.

Our 2 bedroom condo at Snowflower was spacious, comfortable and kitchen perfect for us old blokes to cook sumptuous meal. Other Australian mates staying at Ptarmigan Inn have been to Steamboat between 22 to 29 times, I think they are hooked!

Nigel Wareing from Traveplan scoured the internet daily and finally secured very cheap United Airlines tickets direct to Heyden Airport via LAX which can save several hours on an already long journey. I happen to be a snowboarder as well.

Two weeks in Steamboat

Written by Rowan a Skier from Sydney, Australia
13/3/2013

Its ten years since I was in Steamboat and I was amazed at the property development. The ski village has lost a bit of its atmosphere as some buildings and shops have been demolished for new buildings that have not been built due to the GFC. The ski mountain itself has not changed much in 10 years.

Due to the increased accommodation the mountain is in desperate need of an expansion in on mountain dinning. The lift lines were OK in the first week, really no wait at all and uncrowded ski runs but towards the end of the second week which was memorial weekend there were long lift lines about 10 minutes and the runs busy. Great snow

Returm trip .......20 years on

Written by Jo a Skier from Gulgong, Australia
13/3/2013

We returned to Steamboat this year after an absence of 20 years. It has definitely changed!!!!!

The mountain has been opened up so that there is more runs and more chairlifts. The village itself has changed as well, really we only recognised the gondola.

The holiday was fantastic. Well organised and blessed with lots of powder.

Would go back every year if we could.

Written by Alanna a Skier from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia
20/2/2013

Couldn't have timed the trip better - 100 year anniversary of the Winter Festival, Mardi Gras, it was all happening!

Great service, excellent value for money, the condos were fabulous and loved the spa and pool area.

Would recommend to anyone.
