First Timers to USA

Written by Danielle a Skier from Sydney
31/1/2012

We decided to take advantage of the Aussie $ and ski in the USA.

After much asking around and googling we settled on Steamboat. We got a great deal through Travelplan for the Steamboat Grand Hotel.

Wonderful accommodation, wonderful resort, rotten snow cover! Nevermind, we still had fabulous time and were thrilled with the deal we got for our holiday.

Would love to go back again.

Steamboat is Mostly Awesome

Written by Rod a Skier from Sydney
27/1/2012

Stayed in Steamboat over New Years and 1st week on Jan.

It was fantastic despite poorest snow in 40 years ( still better than most resorts ).

Steamboat Grand is a great place to stay EXCEPT when the Texas Musicfest arrived mid 1st week of Jan. Then it becomes Texan drunkfest and I know how good Steamboat usually is, but not when the Texans INVADE and definately don''t stay at the Steamboat Grand because that is "party central" for the drunken Texans ( who can''t ski and don''t even bother to try ).

The ski school at Steamboat is the best anywhere in the world. Kids had a blast in ski school. Loved the town, the restaurants, the hot springs.

All great but my advice, make sure you avoid the Texans.

Steamboat Springs-Family Fun

Written by Geraldine a Skier from Tasmania
26/1/2012

As a family we have visited Steamboat Springs many times. Its not just a ski resort but a ranching community. We dont require glitz and glamour. As a ski family we do require great skiing, good food and great value. Steamboat also throws in fantastic service and smiles.

We have used Billy Kidd Race Centre that have coaches with international experience. Our children loved skiing with Billy Kidd who must have the most marketable personna at the area.

Accommodation at Trappeurs was good. The free bus service to mountainside and downtown exceptional in winter. Trappeurs is within walking distance to the resort base and eateries. Great Magaritas at La Montana which is a block from Trappeurs. For the children we headed up to The Tugboat. Take the quarters with you for the slot machine games.

We got the best pizza at Slopeside Bar and Grill after a big ski day.

Colorado was lacking in snow when we visited, pretty unusual. Due to great snowmaking Steamboat had the most terrain open. On our second last day champagne powder fell. Just enough for our six year old to be whopping and hollering as she skied through the fresh stuff!! All too soon the evenings hot tubbing-quite a social event, and daytime skiing was over.

Time to fly home and start planning next season. Perhaps we will spend six weeks!!!

Steamboat

Written by Frances a Skier from Australia

We recently holidayed at Steamboat Springs. It was absolutely the prettiest place that we have ever seen.

The accomadation at Bronze tree was great, the view amazing, the weather unbelievable good.

The people we met, from the ski hire guys to the waitstaff at all the cafes, to the lift operators were all very friendly and helpful.

We had a wonderful time and would certainly recommend Steamboat as a holiday destination to our friends.

Our stay at Torian Plum

Written by Joselyn a Snowboarder from Melbourne
26/1/2012

Our holiday was booked through Fiona Fraser at Travelplan Australia, Melbourne office. She was truly fantastic and provided excellent and prompt service. This was followed up with Annie at Travelplan Colorado.

We encountered some problems with our room - however with the help of Annie in Colorado and the full cooperation of resort manager, Tony, our problems were acknowledged and rectified. We were upgraded to a wonderful room and had a fantastic holiday.

Loved staying at the Torian Plum, great location, wonderful staff and just simply loved Steamboat Springs.

Highly recommend Travelplan as that support made the difference in our stay.

Great location

Written by Cam a Skier from Melbourne
25/1/2012

The apartment was terrific. Large, comfortable, well appointed and very well located near the lifts, shops and restaurants.

The shuttle bus stops at the door for trips into town. We really had a great stay and it is ideal for families. The only minor gripes are that the ski locker can accomodate two pairs of skis at the most. This is not a problem if you''re renting gear, because you''ll probably drop them back at the shop each night. If you all have your own skis (the aprtmetn we were in slept 7, you''re going to have to bring them into the apartment which is forbidden. Also, there is no drying room. If things get wet, (especially boots) there is nowhere to dry them. Small details though. Overal it is a great property.

Fantastic stay at Torian Plum, Steamboat

Written by Nicky a Skier from East Brisbane
25/1/2012

Just got home from 2 weeks ski holiday staying at Torian Plum, Steamboat. I would give this a 9.5!

Staff were great. 2 bedroom apartment had everything we wanted ( except for ipod dock). The position is fantastic - catch the lift downstairs and click on your skis.

In the afternoon you can ski all the way home and there are 4 restaurants/bars at your door.

Stroll around the shops which are 100 metres from your door.

Steamboat Shines

Written by Margie a Skier from Sydney
25/1/2012

If you are looking for resort that has facilities for all the family, then include Steamboat on your destination short-list.

The Steamboat Grand is a fantastic property and exceptional value;  the apartment was large and the bathroom sparkled. On site facilities included a day spa; restaurant; pool/spa area; underground parking and an excellent ski storage service near the slopes.

Varied terrain keeps the interest of all levels of skiers and the mountain staff managed to maintain the slopes, despite the below-average snowfalls this season.

Looking forward to returning to enjoy the glade skiing when the snow is more abundant.
