Great Skiing at SnowmassAspen

Written by Paul a Skier from Australia
30/4/2012

The Top of the Village is a fantastic luxury ski in ski out location. It is complemented by a free resort shuttle bus, available on demand.

The ski equipment rentals were handled in a smooth efficient way, and the skiing at Snawmass was fantastic, with knee deep powder everywhere.

When you have done with Snowmass, try Aspen, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk, all on the same lift ticket. Wow great place, great value.

It''s a serious skiers must do.

Great resort but beginners beware

Written by Karla a Skier from Adelaide, Australia
17/4/2012

We loved Sunpeaks, everything nearby, really friendly staff everywhere and nothing was too much trouble. My husband is a good skier, I love it, but I am less confident.  For those of my ability, the choice of cruisy runs were good, but either very short or very long.  So when tired, you had to be prepared to stop or do a long run as your last for the day.

This would not be ideal for beginners or those with less confidence. The short runs back to the village were more challenging for my level. Wouldn't stop me going back though especially if the powder is that good all season, awesome!

MILES OF SKI RUNS

Written by Robert a Skier from Australia
17/4/2012

Snowmass is a huge area that caters for all abilities and my favourite. There are loads of runs which are groomed every three days allowing a range of groomed to gentle moguls to challenging mogul runs.  The snow is light and dry and magic. Every lift has blue runs but for the more intrepid there is black, double black and extreme. I skied for two weeks and cannot wait to go back again.  If you want a change then take the free bus to the other three resorts linked by the ski pass for even more variety. Even though 2011/12 was a poor season by Aspen standards it was far better than a good season in Australia.

Interlude

Written by Elizabeth a Skier from Melbourne, Australia
29/2/2012

I recently had an 8 night stay with 4 others in a 3 bedroom Interlude apt. It was fantasic -well appointed, very well positioned and a great view.

The property management was excellent. There was a great reluctance to give us each an airport transfer (as we arrived at different times) even though the transport company charged per head but sometimes logic doesn''t prevail.

Snowmass itself is fabulous for skiing but very little off snow action indeed.

Anyone not wanting to rest up for the next day really had to bus to Aspen for any nightlife.

We will certainly be returning to Snowmass and hopefully Interlude.

Simply the best holiday we have ever had!!!

Written by Margie a Skier from Mosman, Australia
28/2/2012

Mum happy tick!

Dad happy tick!

Kids (x3)  happy tick!

Thank you Travelplan for organising us the best holiday we have ever had. We have never been to Snowmass before and you couldn't have organised a better holiday for us and our kids.

The accommodation was brilliant.  I will never get over my 3 year old's face as he skied right out of our apartment and down to ski school for the first time - it was priceless.

On the last night we toasted you in the outdoor hot tub as snowflakes fell on our eyelashes and the sunset behind the mountain - It was truly extraordinary

Snowmass, a place to go back to

Written by Craig a Skier from Perth, Western Australia
28/2/2012

In January 2012 my wife Kerry and I went for the first time to Snowmass and stayed at the Crestwood Condominium Hotel. WOW!

We are intermediate skiers who at ages 50+ enjoy our comforts and this is the place to go and to come back to. Travelplan hooked us up with well timed connecting flights and pickups that saw us arrive relaxed and ready to ski.

The Crestwood hotel staff were very courteous and helpful right from the moment they picked us ap at the airport, to ensuring we were settled in the supurb accommodation, to giving us an area orientation, and even taking us to the shops!

The snow was great, as were the well groomed slopes and safely orgnaised lifts. No waiting, no hassles, no inappropriate behaviours.

Snowmass and Travelplan get our five star tick ... we will return!

Snowmass & Timberline the right choice

Written by Ross a Skier from Sydney, Australia
26/2/2012

Our accommodation in Timberline was fantastic and the room, 117, was the right choice and I’d definitely stay there again.

The skiing at all 4 mountains was fantastic and we were fortunate it snowed just before we arrived and during our holiday as up until that time the locals said it had been an unusually poor season not that we would have known.

Everything went smoothly from start to finish with the only problem being it went way too quick!

Thought I’d pass on some positive feedback from the ticket office in the mall at Snowmass – they stated Travelplan was one of the best/easiest to deal with.

White out!

Written by Sue a Skier from White Out!
14/2/2012

Contrary to the title there are no white outs in Aspen/Snowmass.

We skied 15 stays - 12 of them were blue bird sunshine days (it snowed the other 3 days). The snow in Colorado is famous for its pure light, dry powder (brought in from the jetstream weather front).

Snowmass suited our family of 4 well. My husband enjoyed Aspen Highlands where he could ski the double black and extreme runs. Whilst our 2 sons enjoyed ski school at both Snowmass & Buttermilk. One instructor even took my oldest son's group to Aspen Highlands to ski the advanced slopes.

Having 4 mountains to choose from was idea for our family of differing skill levels. Watch out for the tipping and taxes. Many restaurants add up to 20% for gratuity plus another 10% for taxes – that’s an extra 30% on top of the listed menu price. However, on the other side of the balance sheet Travelplan provided a great value for money holiday...we particularly liked the Pay 8 Ski 14 deal (which applied to lift tickets, ski school & ski hire).

Our first trip to Aspen Snowmass, staying at the Crestwood, will not be our last!

Snowmass: Why we can't wait to go back!

Written by Gabrielle a Skier from Woollongong
14/2/2012

I only got back home yesterday and I am already talking of going back next year!  I flew SYD-LA-ASPEN and Snowmass was only a 15 min drive from Aspen Airport.

Crestwood collected us from the airport, took us to the supermarket and had us checked in quickly and efficiently.

The Crestwood is a great location with a two minute walk from our front door to the slopes. I had no idea what "ski valet" was but I do now! I could leave my skis on the racks and just take my poles back to my room!

Ski down to the Gondola and start the day!

Great Location, great facilities, great resort!

Go for it!

Review of Aspen Snowmass and surrounds for families

Written by Gareth a Skier from Sydney, Australia
14/2/2012

Snowmass is an excellent ski area with something for everyone. "X factor" steeps for experts, great beginner areas (with variety) and more cruisers and trees than you could ever hope for. It is also close by to the much smaller mountains Aspen and Aspen Highlands which are far more suited to strong skiers and Buttermilk which is just for learners and crowd free powder days.

We stayed at Viceroy which was luxurious and in great location. Only disappointment was small rooms and pitiful gym.

Restaurants were first class however and valet ski facilities fantastic for families.

Kids have their boots personally fitted each morning...less headaches for Mum and Dad!

Snowmass is very quiet at night however "Adult dinners" at Aspen village were worth the half an hour shuttle in with some great restaurants and bars.

The renaissance of Snowmass Village continues with some of the improvements already seeing action from 2006 including, the eight person Elk Camp Gondola. This new lift takes people from the NEW base village up to Elk Camp Meadows in less than 9 minutes. Other improvements the Aspen Skiing Company as invested in over the past 6 years is the new industry leading 'Treehouse Kids' Adventure Centre'  and in the season of 2008/09 they welcomed the new Sheer Bliss quad chairlift plus a new on mountain restaurant 'Sam's Smokehouse' and the new 'Sneaky's Tavern' in the Snowmass base village, along with even more restaurants and retail outlets.
