Breckenridge

Written by Andrew a Skier from Sydney, Australia

I had never heard of Breckenridge, given it is less known than Vail or Aspen, but I am so glad I chose it above the others. Not only was it closer to Denver in terms of accomodation, it was a real town with more than just skiing to offer (which suited my wife)... and it was cheaper. The skiing was terrific with a vast, well laid out terrain and modern lifts.

The temperatures were usually about zero, so the snow was firm powder without getting mushy and soft powder on days when it snowed. It was also perfect for my kids with little kids, tree runs and had a few double black runs for thrill seekers. It has a great terrain park for boarders, though being spread over 3 interconnecting peaks, it was well spaced out and we felt like we had the resort to ourselves at times. There is even a toboggan-like run there for non-skiers and a half-pipe competition in January.

Finally, our dollar made it so affordable, so it definitely worth revisiting.

Best ski-in/out at Beaver Run

Written by Bruce a Skier from Sydney, Australia
23/4/2012

This resort is huge and a bit over the top but has lots of facilities on site. We stayed in a studio in Building 4. The kitchenette was very small and basic, but otherwise the room was great.

Best ski-in/out we've ever had - walk a few feet to the lift, down to ground level, a few feet to the ski storage room, out an auto door to the slopes about 50 metres downhill to Beaver Run superchair. Ski back to the door.

Not so good points:
* Ski access from other buildings not as good.
* Charged $10 a day for parking AND wifi.
* Cheaper bistros close early, leaving only Spencers - not bad but more expensive - or a longish trip into town.

We were there in a snow drought - plenty of cover but the snow rock hard in March.

Also crowds were noticeable in March. Grooming was great, including lots of black runs (more like blue/black) on peak 10.

In most US resorts you'd be limited to blues or ungroomed blacks - not so pleasant in ice.

Beaver Run - Breckenridge

Written by Luke a Snowboarder from Perth, Australia
10/4/2012

Beaver Run Resort has the perfect location on the mountain, short ski down the hill to the lifts. Great food, spacious rooms well furnished.

Plenty of amenities and activities to keep entertained after hours. Friendly and helpful staff.

Great skiing/boarding conditions both on and off piste.

Close proximity to ski @ other main resorts.
