Beaver Creek Lives Up To Its Reputation

Written by Margie a Skier from Sydney
30/1/2012

Beaver Creek prides itself on being a little more exclusive than most of the Colorado resorts and the village readily portray that image.

Heated thoroughfares ensure there is no slipping on icy pavements, escalators to the lift area ensure your legs are not weary before hitting the slopes;  afternoon (and sometimes morning) cookie distribution puts a final smile on the skier who has just completed one of the many steep long runs on Grouse Mountain.

Cruise the intermediate slopes of Bachelor Gulch or Arrowhead and dine in one of the fabulous restaurants at the base or burn the legs on Grouse Mtn or Golden Eagle.

If you are looking for a large spacious apartment without noise, stay  at St James Place at the end of the mall.

Restaurants are plentiful to suit all levels of budget and taste.

Pop into the Metropolitan Wine Bar for great tapas and a large selection of wine by the glass.

Beaver Creek oozes charm.

Forget Austalia, Beaver Creek great with kids

Written by Sue a Skier from Adelaide
25/1/2012

Our family of 5 spent 8 nights in Beaver Creek in mid Jan. Despite it being their worst start to the season the skiing for us ( intermediate children and high intermediate adults) was awesome.

Large choice of runs, no lft lines and quiet slopes. 2 fresh snowfalls whilst we were there topped up the snow.

Ski school was great at this time of the year as classes small (3-4 in adult classes and no more than 6 in childrens classes).

Highlands lodge good for a family as condos spacious and true ski in ski out. This lodge is away from main area of BC - has free shuttle but after skiing was difficult to convince children to bother with trip to village.

No bar in Highlands Lodge - just quiet lobby area with free coffee/hot choc machine. Also be aware that BC is quiet in the evenings - fine for families but others may find it too quiet. We took free bus down to Avon our first evening to visit the supermarket as few supplies in BC.

Other option is to organize concierge to get groceries stocked for you.

In summary, if the whole family loves skiing this is a fabulous place.

Beaver Creek. Sedate, with a wicked streak.

Written by Kerrie a Skier from Brunswick, VIC. Australia

Not exactly roughing it.

Accommodation at Highlands lodge and Town homes is truly 5 stars, and still manages the homey touches. You can’t beat ski in- ski out with spa ensuites with every bedroom. It’s a great place for a family holiday or with a group of friends. However, you’ll need a car to get to the supermarket, unless you want to pay $8.00 for a loaf of bread. Probably the least of you budgetary issues if you are holidaying at Beaver creek.

Beaver creek, where they’re in fur a good time.

The Charter, Beaver Creek

Written by Vanda a Skier from Sydney_Australia
2/3/2011

The Charter is a good choice for families, not exactly ski in/out as you need to walk 20 metres in/out but the accommodation is comfortable, service in general is good, close to the Beaver Creek village, regular transportation and Renee (the concierge) is very, very helpful.

It''s a nice way to finish a day''s skiing with a few little extras like piping hot chocolate with marshmellows, cookies and a ski concierge to carry your skis.

Beaver Creek - a return visit is a must

Written by Edward a Snowboarder from Sydney, Australia
28/2/2011

Beaver Creek was not how I expected it to be - it was friendly, everything was within walking distance and the facilities were great.

The ride up the mountain every morning for first tracks was pretty spectacular, with greens on top to warm up before heading down the blues and blacks at the end of the day.

The best part was the cookies at 3pm (ish) when you get off the mountain.

The Osprey was great - friendly staff, shortest walk ever to the ski lift and great facilities.

Definitely worth a return visit.

Fur Coats and hot chocolate at Beaver Creek

Written by Solveigh a Skier from Sydney, Australia
26/2/2011

In January 2011 my family and I headed off to Beaver Creek for 2 weeks. After long discussions with Toby at Travelplan and friends, I/we decided that we wanted a resort that was small enough to feel like a village, and have just enough terrain to make it worth it.

Our accommodation was first class, ski in ski out, the concierge at the McCoy Peak condos. was excellent and very helpful, she even went to get us shopping from the town nearby. We were so comfortable at our accommodation that on the really cold nights we just ate in!  The nearby village of Avon provides you with an enormous supermarket, and other stores within a short bus ride from Beaver Creek itself.  There is a very handy bus service which runs around the village nearby to nearly all accommodations regularly. Beaver Creek is well suited to families, but don''t expect any huge diversity in restaurants and night life. We ate out a few times, one excellent restaurant was up high on the mountain "Zacs". You can only reach Zacs by a massive ski sled which ferries groups of 10 people or so up to the restaurant for the early or late sittings.

The snow this year was great, light and plentifull - so it was possible ski on ungroomed powder and many times in the morning and afternoon we would have the hills to ourselves!

The ski school was great, we simply booked up lessons and had great days going all over the mountain. Our instructor Michele was an amazing teacher and lots of fun. The mountain provided skiers with all creature comforts one could want. In the cold mornings you could have a hot chocolate getting off the lift and in the afternoon you could grab a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie (or two) at the base of the centennial lift. This occurs daily. Even little touches like tissues are provided at each lift.

All over the village and lifts the staff at Beaver Creek are always courteous and helpful, which indicates the level to which they pride themselves as being such a service orientated resort. Overall we had a great time at Beaver Creek, by the end of our time there we had well and truly skied all over the mountain, but there was enough to keep us happy. p.s.  we''ve booked next year but we will also check out Vail this time too.

You won''t want to leave the Beav

Written by Susan a Skier from Sydney, Australia

This is a fantastic resort with skiing and boarding to suit everyone. It''s one of the best - super snow, super friendly and great restaurants and bars. Don''t miss Splendido at the Chateau or Zachs on the mountain accessed by a romantic sleigh ride under the stars.

Mini-Vail with its own advantages

Written by Frances a Skier from Sydney, Australia
24/2/2011

Inevitably Beaver Creek is compared to its big sister resort Vail - a fraction of the terrain and no back bowls, but lots of positive features, and it''s easy to do a day trip to Vail for a big mountain experience.

There is much more ski-in out accommodation at Beaver Creek, at a more reasonable price. Crowds are less, especially on the weekends. Being more compact, Beaver Creek is easier to get around, with a free door to door bus service and escalators to get you around the main village.

Nightlife seemed relatively subdued (although to be fair we didn''t really go looking for it) but there is a good variety of restaurants and cafes. Our favourite restaurant was Mirabelle.

Terrain ranges from easy to challenging, and there is lots of grooming, including quite a few of the black runs. A couple of the older lifts are painfully slow and cold, and there''s no gondola (that serves the main runs) or covered chair.

Townsend Place is a fairly basic apartment complex, but in a terrific ski-in ski-out location and good value.

We found the mountain staff to be exceptionally friendly and helpful. We would definitely return to Beaver Creek.

Beaver Creek lives up to the phrase ''not exactly roughing it''

Written by Anne a Skier from Australia
11/12/2009

If the Charter hotel and green runs at the top of the mountain are good enough for the Italian Ski team they are good enough for moi. The Charter is a very comfortable place to stay and the staff are very welcoming and pleasant.

Even when the snow conditions are at their weakest there is still plenty to do on and off the mountain at this resort.

The season is off to a slow start but taking the chair with members of various world cup ski teams and skiing down the easiest runs next to them was a great experience I am sure I would not have at other mountains.

When the whole mountain is open all levels are catered for. Great ski school.

Great guest services.
