Snowmass, Great for young Kids

Written by Nick a Skier from Sydney, Australia
6/4/2011

I cannot think of a better set up for a young first time skiers. The newly built Treehouse is 25 metres from the first timers slope, whilt indoors the fascilities are spot on.

For older more experienced Skiers Snowmass offers everything, and I wonder why any keen skier would saty in Aspen!

Our day at Aspen Highlands was the best days skiing I have ever had, anf the Highlands Bowl is a must, and worth the 45 minute hike in Ski boots.

Aspen Snowmass

Written by Kylie a Skier from Burleigh Waters, Queensland. Australia
6/4/2011

We stayed at The Crestwood in December 2008 and again in December 2010. Our condo was great and the facilities are all you need. The staff are courteous and accommodate all requests, even an early airport drop off at 6am in winter!

We just loved it as it was close to everything and especially ski school. We could go home for lunch and warm up or eat at one of the many restaurants.

The Stew Pot and The Sweet Life were visited regularly. A new mexican restaurant Vanga Vanga opened when we were there and food and service was excellent.

People believe Aspen is expensive but after the air ticket it is affordable for a family and most enjoyable for a family holiday.

Brass Monkees

Written by John a Skier from Melbourne, Australia
6/4/2011

On the first day of our trip to Aspen this year we were greeted by -21 degrees Fahrenheit (about -6 Celsius) The cold snap lasted about 4 days, but the quality of cold dry powder was superb.

Of the fifty places to ski before you die - Aspen Snowmass must be very close to the top of the list.

Don''t hang up your skis before you have tried "The Power of Four"

Aspen - despite the abundance of botox, furs and gaudy jewellery, what a great place. We got the timing right as the conditions were ''best ever'' - planning a sequel now!

Aspen - The Gant

Written by John a Skier from Northbridge, NSW. Australia
8/3/2011

My family (myself, wife and 3 teenage children) booked through Travelplan into the Gant at Aspen in conjunction with the AALC Conference in January 2011. Travelplan arranged everything relating to the conference, together with flights that took us into San Francisco so we could do 10 days travel on west coast before the conference.

Travelplan were very helpful with the various changes I sought before finalizing our itenary.

Aspen skiing and facilities were great. Our unit in the Gant was very comfortable and well appointed. I was a little disappointed the Gant did not have a central lounge or meeting aarea, but apart from that it was an excellent place to stay.

First time in Aspen

Written by Anthony Leonard a Snowboarder from Sydney
26/2/2011

As I switch from skiing to snow boarding from time to time it is great to try new mountains. The terrain available at Aspen Ajax, Highlands and Snowmass was fantastic and like up to our expectations. Silverglo condominiums was convenient and the facilities suited our requirements. I shall certainly be returning to Aspen.

As a return visitor to Chateau au Claire in Aspen we found the accomodation very comfortable. If we needed anything its was on our doorstep within 30 mins.

The short walk into town allows for guilt free eating & drinking!

We couldnt have wished for better snow conditions, our timing was great.

Snowmass & Capitol Peak Lodge

Written by Nigel a Skier from Melbourne, Australia
25/2/2011

What a amazing resort! I have never been anywhere so easy to deal with. The Snowmass hospitality staff are exceptional. Even when there is a problem , its no effort to fix and make it right.

Capital Peak is brilliant. Right in the middle of the base village. The apartment was perfect, king  beds, large bathrooms, proper FULLY equipped kitchen, Comcast TV. You go to the supermarket, a 5 min walk and then call for the lodge to pick you up with you grocerys! Heated pavers, you can walk on them in your sox! just 3 minutes to the ski school. My kids 5 & 7, just loved it. Sorry Mt Buller but you could learn a lot, just like our children did in 6 days of lessons. Even they said, "well they just say a few words and then we go skiing. My 7yo daughter just loves powder. Top instructors, all happy to be there. An incredible variety of runs. the packed powder blues and blacks are so enjoyable. There is a lot of double blacks. The secret is that many don''t bother to travel to Asen to ski, Snowmass has it all, and a lot of Aspen locals ski in Snowmass.

Transport is easy to Aspen. Ron at Four Mountain sports in the Mall is a top guy, great bootfitter, but watch out for some of the rental staff, about the only ferals I met the whole time, sadly young snowboardeers should not be trying to fit boots and skis for skiers! Great shopping, plenty of variety, but Aspen does have some credit card busting shops to die for. Aspen luggage bags with the ski boots in the ends are fantastic! Some pretty good restaurants in Snowmass, Viceroy is the best, also Buchi [SP?] the japanese in the base. Others ok to very good, food a lot better than the junk they serve in say Disneyland! Can''t comment on the night life as we were home with the children, but I think its fairly quiet.

Cheaper than Buller to ski and stay, light years better in facilities and size of the ski area, not to mention snow other areas. Only the airfares make it more...but its worth it. Thanks Travel Plan, super well organised.

A fabulous family holiday in the Snow

Written by Jody a Skier from Perth, Western Australia
24/2/2011

Its all about Location with the Capital Peak, Snowmass.  Located at the base of the mountain its so easy to gets the kids to ski school and access both the Gondola and 6 pack.  The accommodation is new and spacious. Only reservation is the service.  The staff are very nice but there seems to be a disconnect between requests and outcomes.  As usual, Travelplan service was fabulous in every way.
