Aspen Late Season

Written by Steve a Snowboarder from Sydney
13/2/2012

After already been to Aspen in February last year, I got another long weekend in while on a business trip to Washington, Virginia in mid April. Althought Ajax, Buttermilk and Snowmass had closed on 14th April, Highlands was open until the end of April.

The $US150/night lodging for a queen room at the limelight included lift tickets for two people per night - beat that anywhere for value! Snow was still good, with spring slush at the base while the top was in pristine condition. I'm told it snowed for another two weeks after I left on 18th April.

Family at Crestwood

Fantastic location, good pool and hot tubs.

We had a 1br + loft for 2 adults and 2 kids.  Was slightly small and only a shared laundry but otherwise great.

No restaurant on site but there are some in Snowmass and many in Aspen.

Might not be ideal for singles (stay in Aspen!) but excellent for families.

Pick and choose as you please

Written by Emma a Skier from Sydney

We've done Vail, Beaver Creek and Aspen. Aspen has been the only one we've returned to: the skiing is unrivalled. The accomodation was to match also, but not for the faint-hearted (as we were up a few flights of stairs), but the view certainly was worth it.

The additional guest passes to the well-equipped spa and gym (a pleasant fifteen minute walk, otherwise there's a shuttle) were regretably only utilised on the last day and were luxurious.

Go during January and there is plenty to do (we love Winterskol), although early ski conditions make the snow fall bare-minimum (give or take a few of days where we had powder and LOTS of it - spectacular). Doesn't mean that Aspen/Snowmass don't turn on the snow-makers full-blast, leaving you with blue sky and enjoyable groomed runs.

The proximity to all four mountains with the free shuttle service is perhaps the biggest drawcard, as the past two ski trips have shown: you can ski all day and not ski the same run twice.

When we were there, there were more Australians than anyone else.. Just goes to show!!

Review of Snowmass

Written by Corinne a Skier from Mosman
31/1/2012

My husband, daughter (4 years) and i have just returned from 14 nights in Snowmass. Wow, what an incredible ski area and resort.

I highly recommend it for families. The ski school (Treehouse Kids Centre) is brilliant. Every day our daughter happily went into ski school and we would often see her on the slopes. The tuition was brilliant too.

Snowmass has such a range of slopes ideal for the whole family from the magic carpet on the nursery slopes to green blues and blacks.

The restaurants are great and located in the Mall area or base of slope. Everything was so easy.

Our ski hire at Four Mountains Sports was excellent. Mid way during the holiday we changed skis to get them edged and the service was efficient.

Snowmass is also highly accessible by bus to Buttermilk, Aspen Mountain and Aspen Highlands. A vast ski area.

The accommodation at the Crestwood Hotel was excellent too. We were lucky with snow this year too and plenty of Coloradian blue sky days.

I wouldn't change a thing about our holiday.

Well done Miranda at Travelplan. We simply love Snowmass.

Thanks.

New Years Eve in Aspen

Written by Chris a Skier from Sydney
25/1/2012

This was my second trip to Aspen in 2 years and again it didnt disappoint. Everyone from last year returned with some extra's. We arrived slightly earlier this year than last and experienced New Years Eve in Aspen. What a night. Met new friends and caught up with old friends, the skiing was great, the partying was even better.

Aspen Sq was such a great pace to stay. The were always there when we needed them and so friendly and the location was spot on.Just perfect seemless trip from start to finish with no mishaps. The dinner to arrange our trip for 2012/2013 is already planned. Can't wait!!

Best ski destination, bar none

Written by Dauid a Skier from Sydney
25/1/2012

Having skied in Australia and in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, I was blown away by the town and the skiing in Aspen.

There was variety on the slopes, for all levels of skiers (including steep and deep), even when the snow was not at its best (we did get a couple of small dumps during our stay).

The town was fun and friendly, with plenty to do when not on the slopes.

Great bars and restaurants, from kiddie friendly to smart.

The Gant was flawless. The pool and hot tubs were a treat for sore bodies, the shuttle service was friendly and prompt, and the ski concierge service was a god send. Definitely coming back. Again and again.

Aspen home to great skiing and nightlife, enjoy great restaurants and bars.

Written by Susan a Skier from Castlecrag

I had not been to Aspen for 30 years and will definetly not be leaving it that long again. A great range of skiing with fabulous views. The on mountain facilities are amazing and all employees provide great service.

Aspen village has a great range of restaurants and bars, all good and great at making cocktails!

There is shopping and galleries for those who want something else and it is really easy to get around the village and the free transport makes it easy to get to all mountains.

Worst start to season in 50 years, but still brilliant

Written by Paul a Skier from Sydney

This was our 3 consequetive year in Aspen and definitely the worst snow we had experienced. That said, the place, the people and the whole experience remain magical and we look forward to our annual visit for year''s to come.

I can''t fault the place.

SENSATIONAL ASPEN

Written by Kevin a Skier from Sydney
21/1/2012

We had the most amazing time in Aspen in December.Everything exceeded our expectations, flights, accomodation and the ski areas.

Aspen has something to offer everyone, the skiing, shopping, great restaurants, awesome scenery and plenty of sunny days.

I have skied at some of the larger resorts in Europe and Aspen has just so much more to offer.

A huge thankyou to Anne at the Melbourne office for all your help and advice when planning the trip.
