Fantastic time in Vail

Our family of 5 (including kids aged 5 and 10) had a fantastic time in Vail in January 2013. We usually go to Whistler and this year decided to try new things. Vail seemed to be a safe choice in terms of how highly it ranks as a resort and indeed it did not disappoint.
The snow conditions were fantastic - bright sun and blue skies - although we wished there was some fresh snow towards the end of our 10-day stay. We bought Local Epic lift passes, which include 10 days in Vail - this was a much more cost-effective option than buying a full Epic pass.
The Vail village is gorgeous, very Swiss Alps-like with a lot of artwork displayed outdoors, which makes a walk through the village a cultural event.
The mountains are beautiful with plenty of very wide runs. We also loved tubing and kids snomobiles - we did both on our last day and it was a great way to end the trip.
Would have liked to see better restaurants at the bottom of the Village gondola - the self-service place with 3 food choices seems like a waste of a prime location.
The hotel had a wonderful homely feel with superb service. Breakfast could have had a wider selection - gets a bit boring after a few days.
Loved the ski concierge - excellent service and a great convenience.
For some reason the village didnt seem busy, even on the public holiday weekend, which was great for skiing, but a little quiet for nightlife. All in all, a wonderful stay and skiing.
