Heavenly - big mountain & big town & big views

Don''t go to Heavenly if you like small initmate ski resorts. This is a VERY BIG (and not a pretty) town on South Lake Tahoe. Resort facilities are great, but the crowds were too much for us (do not go during any holiday period - even weekends are crowded).
Skiing is expansive, but a little inconvenient to get around the mountain, particularly at the end of the day when you need to get back to the gondola from the California side.
Varied terrain might interest families and views are better than the photographs!
If you do go to Heavenly, you MUST VISIT Kirkwood - fantastic skiing! The Marriott was superb but will charge you for parking US$24+ per day.
