Brilliant Aspen

We stayed for two weeks in Fenruary at Aspen Square Hotel in the heart of Aspen - a solid three and a half star in a great location.

Each apartment is individually decorated by the owner so furniture and fittings do vary between them. We had a large and comfortable one bedroom facing the town. After visiting some of the five star hotels for drinks we were very happy we'd avoided the "try hards" who inhabit these places and had real people for our fellow guests. Our location was two minutes walk to Aspen Mountain Gondola and two minutes walk to the bus station for travel further afield.Buses between mountains are free to ski pass holders. Really good bars and restaurants everywhere. Aspen town has a very nice feel too it, although it's not beautiful in the boutique European ski resort sense.

The skiing on Aspen mountain was sensational with a combination of good groomers and thousands of feet of very challenging moguls on good fall lines. 10 minutes by bus was Aspen Highlands and again the terrain was fantastic with plentiful side country steeps along with beautifully groomed main runs. We didn't try Buttermilk, but 25 minutes by bus from Aspen was Snowmass, with different terrain again - absolutely huge but more cruisy with occasionally more challenging terrain and plenty of tree skiing. Don't believe that Aspen is expensive. For Aussies it's actually pretty cheap to eat out and go out.  Example: a boutique bottle of beer in an Aussie bar $8.00, in Aspen $4.00. Aspen itself has a slightly older crowd as many of the families prefer Snowmass. Did I mention there were NO CROWDS or lift queues? Loved our stay and will return.

Aspen Snowmass, an outstanding destination

We have recently returned from 11 days at this most amazing ski resort. The accommodation, Aspen Square could not be bettered for access to Aspen Mountain, the (free) shuttle bus to the three nearby mountains, shops, bars, restaurants and an excellent  deli, bottleshop and supermarket.

We were blessed with a great base, some fresh snow, and 7 days of sunshine which was perfect to explore the slopes.

The terrain across all four mountains was vast, with a great variety of challenges for beginners to the most experienced skiers.

Aspen Snowmass has it all, on snow ambassadors to greet you and give you free hot drinks, snacks and sunscreen, group ski lessons in small groups with friendly instructors.

The hotel is in a fantastic location. The staff are falling over themselves to help you with everything. Our first condo had a really small bed but they were more than happy to re-locate us to a room with a king size bed. We would definitely stay there again if back in Aspen. An excellent experience.
