Niseko Hilton

Written by Chris & Mark a Skier from Geraldine, New Zealand
7/3/2011

Our stay in Niseko was great. The ski facilities /snow/ excellent. The Hilton was lovely - great service at ski/boot storage area - it was amazing to have the ski in/ski out situation.

The room had two singles, and we would have preferred a double bed, but it was OK. Breakfasts - great with beautiful views from the yotei restaurant.

We would love to bring our teenagers to Niseko next time. The buses to and from the Hotel were handy. The night time return buses were a bit sparse and having to climb up to the Welcome Centre to get it was a minus.

Overall though a wonderful time.

Hilton Niseko

Written by Stephen a Skier from Adelaide, Australia
6/3/2011

some said the snow was not as good as usual but for us it was fantastic; Japan is great , the scenery is stunning; there is no jet lag; it is not so far away. the weather/visibility was variable- not much sun. we ate at hotel as part of conference- hirafu looked good. There is a cross country course adjacent the hotel - we could get classic but not skating skis.

Hilton Niseko Village

Written by Peter a Skier from South Coogee, NSW. Australia

This is definitely the place to stay for the very keen skier who is a little more cashed up. The standard rooms are 5 star (quite large by Japanese standards).

Great restaurants and a wonderful inside/outside Onsen.

Almost like having your own personal gondola at the front door. Access to the top of the mountain with the connecting ''Wonderland''chair can give you at least a 15 min head start on those coming from Hirafu (weather permitting).

Gone from Gondola Chalets

Written by David a Skier from Sydney, Australia
28/2/2011

You always one of the first comments you will hear about sking in Japan is of the great powder snow in Japan..Travelling there recently in January this definently rang true. Most days we skied where off piste powder days. The terrain I likened to a LARGER version of Thredbo (excluding snow & Gondola''s) there are steep sections, great tree runs & plently of groomed slopes. On the mountain food services is first class without too much expense.

Outstanding

Written by Andrew a Skier from Sydney, Australia
24/2/2011

The village of Grand Hirafu at Niseko has everything.  It is in a similar time zone so you can get going without the jet lag.  It has to be the cheapest ski destination for Australians.  The restaurants cater for all.  It snows all the time.  It is not the steepest mountain but if it was it would spend most of the season shut for avalanche control.  Don''t tell anybody else how good it is.

Too easy

Written by Roland a Skier from Sydney, Australia
24/2/2011

We decided a year in advance to use Travel Plan for our trip to Japan. We were two families with 5 kids (7 to 1 year old) on their advice we ended up at the Setsumon, In two apartments on the same floor. What a fantastic location and place to stay. From the accomodation to transfers it was a breeze. The staff in Niseko were fantastic and treated us to some wide and varied Japanese cuisine all around the area. It was a dream holiday.

Niseko Mountain, Lodge, NISS kids

Written by Tim a Skier from Greenwich, Sydney
24/2/2011

Niseko certainly lived up to our expectations with regard to heavy powder snowfall....it snowed for pretty well the whole 10 days we were there less about 90 minutes of sunshine! Whilst it was steep in parts, overall it just is not the same as skiing North America or Europe in terms of the big mountain elevation and steep feeling often experienced.

The lodge was excellent....very modern...but no jacuzzi or Onsen and nothing much for the kids - a games room would have been ideal! Also, even though it was geograhically very close to the Welcome centre and theoretically ski-in ski-out  - practically - it wasn''t and so being closest to the last shuttle stop before the top we often had to walk to the base, because all the buses were full by the last stop!  NISS staff were great with admin and teaching with our 3 and 5.5 year old girls....... with our eldest passionately stating "I loooovvveee skiing, Dad" and convincing my wife to scrub a day off!

The Griswalds ski Niseko

Written by David a Skier from Australia
24/2/2011

We had two families ski Niseko for two weeks in January. The snow was terrific for advanced skiers and those that could cope with the weather with it snowing continuously for 10 days.  Fantastic tree and deep powder skiing, although the top of the mountain was occaisionally closed. Getting around the village was sometimes challenging and the slopes were challenging for beginners.
