Telemarking Niseko, Japan

Written by Doug a Skier from Canberra, Australia
Had a great time Tellying the powder at Niseko. The combined resort offers a good range of slopes and great powder skiing, particularly off piste in the trees and outside the resort boundary where you can find untrahed slopes.  We found gate 5, which allows access to ouside the resort boundary on the Hanazono side, provided varing terrain and allowed us to get back to the lowest lift without having to walk.

The accommodation at Pension Berg was fantastic for our budget price range. Great breakfast, small onsen, friendly family run and you only had to walk 100 metres to get to the nearest lift.

Getting there and back was well organised by Abigail and Jess from Travelplan, we had no problems with any connections.

Food in Hirafu is good quality (and price) and there is a good range of fine dining to cafe style places to eat at.

Miso Love Niseko Pow!

Written by Guy a Skier from Blue Bay, Australia

I had for a long time heard about the unbelievable powder of Niseko and that is what I thought those stories were "unbelievable". Finally I decided to check it out for myself and now I have an unbelievable story of my own.

I was there for 12 days and it snowed every day. I was stuck in an amazing powder Groundhog Day. The powder was light and dry and in the time that I was there over 170cm of fresh snow had fallen.

I stayed at The Greanleaf resort which was beautifully nestled at the base of the hill in Niseko Village which is quieter and more relaxed than Hirafu.  After a day of skiing over waist deep powder there is no better way to recharge the batteries for yet another powder day than relaxing in the outdoor onsen as the snow continues to fall. The onsen is followed by a drink in the lounge area sitting by the fire place and a recap of the day that was and looking forward to the following day.

I took advantage of the Travelplan office in Niseko to iron out minor glitches and for recommendations for dining.

I will definitely be back for more of the same.
