Whistler Blackcomb is big mountain skiing

Written by Tim a Skier from Perth, Western Australia
6/4/2010

2 drawbacks to Whistler: Price. Crowds. A BIG plus: Choice. Crowds aren’t necessarily a drawback. If you’re going for a few drinks in a bar, for example, a crowd can provide atmosphere. But crowded liftlines are a bummer and Whistler has them, big time. But Whistler has so much choice of terrain, that when you finally get off the lift, you can find an uncrowded slope somewhere if you want to. Groomed trails. Bump runs. Terrain parks. Trees. Scary couloirs. Wide open bowls. And views. Amazing.

And when the skiing’s done for the day – whatever time that is - there is so much choice for food, drink and entertainment. Small cafés and coffee shops. Bars and restaurants. 5-star to no-star. There are also good food options on-mountain. But please, if you have too much to drink at Christine’s, don’t try to ski back down. Take the gondola. The views are great from there, too.

Where to stay? You choose. Whistler Village, Creekside, or surrounds. Hotels, B&B, private lodges. Four Seasons luxury or rustic. (Actually, there’s not too much of the rustic.) Room for 1? Or 21? It’s all there. You choose. Oh, yes. And did I mention the views?

Whistler -Tanalus Lodge

Written by Justine a Snowboarder from Dee Why, Australia
31/3/2010

We have just returned from a fantastic family holiday in Whistler with our 3 young children.

The resort was it''s usual easy, convenient, friendly self with heaps of atmosphere and all the fanfare of the paralympics.

Whilst the snow quality may not always be top notch in Whistler it is so easy for a young family with loads of amenites, walking distance from lifts and 2 hour proximty from Vancouver airport where one can fly direct in 14 hours.

We were very happy with the Tantalus Lodge -it is more budget style but we were happy to save on accomodation given we would not be spending a great deal of time in our rooms. The staff were very accomodating and helpful, the hot-tub and pool was great and although the rooms were a little dated, they were a good size. The shuttle service was excellent to transport us to and from the base of the lifts each day which would be about a 500m walk. - We would certainly have no problem staying there again.

For a young family Whistler is awesome thats why we keep going back!

"AWESOME"

Written by Kay a Skier from Victoria, Australia

Would definitely recommend to friends.

Hotel and staff were awesome.

Mountain was just amazing, great skiing, disappointed we didn''t see any bears though, hibernating.

Location of the Westin was perfect, close to everything.

Thanks to Anne Martin for all your help.

hard luck story

Written by Peter a Skier from Australia
31/3/2010

Here's my hard luck story:
Arrived on saturday, organised all my ski gear and accommodation. First days skiing on Sunday and what a great day. Great snow, great lifts, Peak to Peak gondola over and back, got lost a few times, had some great runs on seventh heaven. Then disaster. Stopped to say gidday to a charming american couple, had a chat and went on my way down piste. over a ridge on a medium slope and had the biggest stack of a long skiing history. Stuffed my knee and needed a sled ride down with the lovely ski patrol. Wrecked the holiday, (although i still got to sleep in, watch some American Tv, visit some great restaurants, see a fantastic resort, and meet some lovely Canadanians!

The staff at the Glacier were helpfull and considerate, the Insurance company were very good and gave me a buisness class return trip home because i couldn''t fit in the normal seat with the leg brace! The whistler MRI people were extremely helpfull, calling the insurance company numerous times and organising everything for me. Considering it was a bitch to have this happen at the end of the first day of my holiday, everybody was very helpfull, corteous and considerate. thankyou travel plan for a really well organised trip and will deftinitely be calling you after the operation to organise another holiday where i can see the full mountain!

Easy

Written by Neridah a Skier from Sydney, Australia

We went to Whistler during the olympics. great flights all booked through travel plan. They were great at organising all the details, flight changes, even getting good seats on the plane!

Whistler is a fabulous place to ski, Terrain for everyone, every standard and every weather condition.  Even on a bad day, there is a great place to ski.  So much terrain. Lots of restaurants and bars, lots of fun. Ski school was great too. I will definately be going back.

Stoney Creek was great location- even this kids could walk in to town in their ski boots.

Loved it

First time at Whistler but not the last......

Written by Chris a Skier from Sydney, Australia
31/3/2010

My wife and I had our first ski holiday in 17 years when we spent two weeks in Whistler this year. We shared the holiday with four friends and had a fantastic time.

The lodge was not cheap but was good value for money with the location and facilities really adding to the holday.

The Whistler slopes then made the trip memorable with great snow and great runs.

We are planning a return trip next year with the family!

One of our best holidays ever - thanks Travelplan

Written by Stephanie a Skier from Brisbane, Australia
30/3/2010

I can''t say enough positive things about our whole trip - everything was perfect and it all went to plan. Many thanks to Leah at Travelplan for organising everything for us. We loved Whistler - great powder, friendly locals, delicious cocktails, top atmosphere.

Would recommend the Westin to anyone as the room and the service were great and only steps to the gondolas.

Also had a great time at the Fairmont in Vancouver. Fantastic city and we loved the dogs in the hotel having left our own furry friends at home.

See you next time!

Written by Dianne a Snowboarder from Melbourne, Australia

After an amazing 12 days on the mountain, I left with by far the best riding experience I have ever had. The terrain was unbelievable and the views from all around the mountain were spectacular.

The village and atmosphere was great, and everyone was friendly.

Aspens on Blackcomb was awesome, right on the base of Blackcomb mountain, and only a 10-15 minute walk to Whistler village, the location was pretty much perfect. The rooms were nice and had good facilities, and after a day of snowboarding it was great to relax in the heated pool outside (right on the edge of one of the runs!).

The ski and snowboard valet service provided made getting out there so much easier too, not to mention being able to just ski-in and ski-out!

I would definitely recommend this resort, and will definitely be back soon!

Whistler Ski Trip Jan 6 to Jan 20

Written by Eric a Skier from Port Willunga, Australia
5/2/2010

All airfares, accomodation, lift tickets, signage at the airport provided by Anne Martin from Travelplan were exceptional and I will be booking 2010 trip overseas with her again.

The trip itself went very well apart from persistent rain each day which meant conditions were not the best experinced ( this is out of everyone''s control though).  This was my 8th trip to Whistler and the resort has become so big and crowded I probably will look at Aspen in 2010 ( I spent the last 2 years there and it was awesome). This was my first trip I took my teenage son who had a great time.

All in all very happy with Travelplan and I would recommend Whistler to people wanting great nightlife and a ski holiday. To the dedicated serious skier I think Colarado resorts or the inland Canadian resorts Fernie, Big White and  Kicking Horse have more to offer and better snow.

Whistler- our first time !

Written by James a Skier from Sydney, Australia
5/2/2010

My first experience with Canadian skiing left me wanting to turn around and fly the 14 hrs back to LA only days after landing back in Sydney.

My wife and I had a full week in Whistler and still by the end of it we hadn''t even started to scratch half the resataurants and pubs. Initially we were overwhelmed by the numbers of yound people, but the closer we looked, the more we saw people and couples of all ages enjoying the vibrant village of Whistler.

And the skiing.... enough to leave our legs burning and our faces saw from smiling so much!!

We will definitely be back again for sure.
