Silver Star a Good Family Skiing Destination

Written by Debbie a Skier from North Avoca, NSW. Australia
28/2/2011

We stayed in Chilcoot Lodge which is centrally located to all mountain activities. Rooms were comfortable and nicely furnished. Be aware that a 1 bedroom with Alcove means that the whole family sleeps in the same room with only a small 3/4 wall separating the main bed from the kid''s bunk.

The lodge restaurant/bar was good.

We enjoyed skiing the excellent range of terrain/runs for beginner to advanced skiers. The kids enjoyed the ''fast'' tube park and ice skating on the pond. Visibility at resort better than Big White.

We had a great holiday and would visit Silver Star again with our family.

Firelight at the Pond

Written by Susan a Skier from Sydney, Australia
8/4/2010

Accommodation was excellent - comfy beds and good kitchen/dining area.  Hot tub at the end of the day was also a bonus. There were items in tub area however e.g. bandaids, food scraps for the complete stay which we found off putting. Little things like an ice tray was not in our room when we arrived and it took almost 5 days to get one. The staff were very nice particularly when we needed to get assistance after a skiing accident. The scenery at Silverstar is very pretty and we had a lot of fun.

Fun in Silver Star!

Written by Ann a Skier from Sydney, Australia
1/4/2010

Feb, 2010 - Silver Star, Canada. Small village built in mining town style but with bulidings painted in bright colours. A bit weird but oddly seems to work. All resort staff very friendly and helpful. Lots of places to eat - food quality good. Easy to get around resort with a frequent courtesey bus.

Walkemeyer House was fab accomm. Great location - ski in ski out. Great resort for families - not that I took mine!

The terrain is spread out and there is something for everyone. And for the non skiiers - Lots of other activites on offer too. Wouldn''t spend more than a week there though. Had an absolute ball. Would definately go back.

Thanks Travelplan!

Family fun at Silver Star

Written by Jane a Skier from Chatswood, Australia
29/3/2010

The ''Ski Martini'' team travelled to Silver Star in January 2010 consisting of the Martin and Fortini families hence ''Ski Martini'', our ages ranged from 7 to 48 and we all had a great time.

Skiing for the experienced skiers with black and double black ski runs they ensured that they skied every run available and marked-off the runs religiously every night!,  Ski school for the youngest, even refusing to get an earlier mark on a cold cold day! And most importantly ''ego'' skiing for the less experienced.

Staying at Firelight Lodge we enjoyed new apartments and private hot tub - a must at the end of a hard days skiing, ski-out and ski-in (limited), an easy walk to the village for restaurants and shopping, with Bugaboos being the highlight of many an enjoyable lunch, especially the variety of soups.

We are already planning our next adventure back.

Snowbird

Written by Libby a Skier from Wauchope NSW, Australia
21/2/2010

We had 6 days at Silver Star, staying at Snowbird Lodge. The weather was very average unfortunately, but Silver Star is a lovely village & our unit at Snowbird was stunning. It was in a perfect ski in/ski out position - could even ski straight to our verandah & hot tub -and close to restaurants/ shops/good coffee! Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff across the resort & the Mountain Guides were a god-send in foggy conditions! We will definitely go back!

Silver Star Ski Resort

Written by Neville a Skier from Melbourne, Australia
17/2/2010

Silver Star is a great resort. From a skiing perspective, it has an excellent variety of terrain; steep double black bumps runs, glades, through to beautifully groomed blacks, blues and greens, a well run ski school with very capable instructors.

It also has a good variety of accommodation, with very reasonably priced ski in ski out available, and a very friendly atmosphere.

The early purchase season's lift pass is terrific value and the ski school offers a three day improvement clinic which is also tremendous value.

I hope to go again next year.

Silverstar

Written by Sarah a Snowboarder from Sydney, Australia
9/2/2010

Silverstar was a great overall experience.  On it has a couple of atmospheric bars/restaurants, great & easily accessable facilities like ice skating and tubing. But it had some big negatives. The queues at the main 8-pack lift were diabolical for much of the day, every day (but it was the week between x''mas & new years).  This meant that a large part of the resort and some great terrain was a "no-go zone" unless you were prepared to wait in excess of 20min for a lift back up the hill. The resort lifties were underwhleming...they seemed to lack training and enthusasim for ensuring the lifts were fully loaded and that people queued in an orderly fashion. They really gave you the impression they were there for thier winter holiday and work was something that got in the way of a good time. Disapointing (but unsurprising) given most were Aussies. Plus, snowboarders beware, there are a lot of flat and long cat tracks and some "slightly" uphill connecting routes that you are forced to use to get around the resort.  However, for double black diamond skiiers and lovers of moguls and tree skiing, there are some really awesome runs and once you''re out the back or in silverwoods, you can avoid much of the queues and the worst of the lifties for mcuh of the day!  It''s still a worthy resort, but it''s not the best that Canada has to offer.

Ski Silver Star - Snowbird Lodge

Written by Carolyne a Skier from Sydney
26/10/2009

Beautiful Silver Star.  Having vistited the ski resort 4 times, it is our favourite destination.  Definately the place for those that want light BC powder, challenging runs (without the herd), quiet nights, sunny days, relaxation and couple/family memories.  [Not the place for party-goers.] Ski school is one of (if not the) best in Canada (North America for that matter).  Snowbird offers TRUE ski in/ski out.  The resort is well designed, facilities all what you expect and reasonably priced (for its category).  We stayed in a 1 brd executive on the ground floor.  Highly recommend.
