What sensational terrain

Written by Anna a Skier from Melboune, Australia

Spent just under 2 weeks here and absolutely loved it. The snow fell, the crowds stayed away and the terrain gave us a run for our money. Some of the best terrain I have seen.

I think it is worth while having a car a Kicking Horse as there is limited eating options on mountain, especially at night.  A quick trip to Golden and the shopping is done.

We would definitely return and would recommend it for families due to the wonderful ski school and the family ski zones.

Pros:
Fantastic mountain. Excellent terrain for advance and expert. Good for intermediate. Inbounds terrain is out of bounds at most other resorts. Excellent ski school (board, ski and tele). Excellent ski patrol. Uncrowded except on big snow days (all the locals come out). Good access via gondola. Back country feel as have to hike a bit to get to some areas. Golden Eye restaurant is worth a visit for lunch or a drink.

Cons:
Can get cold. RCR (new management) have ceased shuttle to Golden ($100 taxi return for grocery shopping). Poor general store on mountain. Lift ticket system is archaic.

Kicking Horse is for hardcore skiiers and borders

Written by Peter a Skier from Noosa Heads, Australia

Over 4000 vertical feet and nearly 3000 acres of dry snow, not much of it groomed. A gondola to the topand, which run will i take to the bottom this time? Where is everyone? No crowds.

If you love skiing hard and fast in challenging terrain, this is it. Theres a great restuarant at the top and a great coffee shop at the bottom which also does wonderful sushi. I wouldnt recommend for young familys or the casual skiier. Theres no nightlife maybe down in Golden but if you want to ski or board hard ,this is it .I go every year .

Kicking Horse is the Champagne Powder Capital of the World! Whitewall, in Feuz Bowl, and the new alpine bowl, Superbowl, are the PLACES TO BE for advanced skiers on a powder day, but all of our ridges get wind-blown so often double the snow in the chutes! For Intermediate and beginner skiers, the Pioneer Chair section of the hill has many “secret stashes” of powder for days after the dump. You will often see many locals riding the original double chair, as they know the lower mountain has amazing glades and tree skiing, as well as many groomers!

Must skis for advanced

  • Whitewall, at the top of Stairway to Heaven, going into Feuz Bowl
  • Truth #94 or Dare #95, double black chutes that require a boot back to the summit of Terminator peak and then an exhilarating ride into Bowl Over

Must Skis for Intermediate

  • Cloud Nine #37 going from the top of Stairway to Heaven down through Crystal Bowl
  • Sluiceway #33 going from the top of Eagle’s Eye down through Bowl Over

Must Skis for Beginners

  • It’s a Ten #10 which is the easiest way down from the top of Eagle’s Eye. Even the beginners can have the opportunity of skiing through our big mount terrain
  • Buffalo Jump #15 starting from the Catamount Top

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort has attracted rave reviews after just a few seasons of opening up this awesome vertical, deep powder and spectacular mix of terrain. The onmountain village is growing at a steady pace and the all round experience just keeps on getting better.
