Kicking Horse Rocks!!

Written by Geoff a Snowboarder from Sydney, Australia

I spent 3 days at Kicking Horse in January 2010 and this place is a serious mountain!!

If you are looking for somewhere with something for everyone this place is it, double blacks and black runs galore and also some good cruising terrain and groomers.

It snowed about 40cms while I was there and even over the New Year holiday the lift lines were pretty small.

I''ll definitely be back.

Kicking Horse is a Real Skier''s Hill

Written by Geoffrey a Skier from Melbourne, Australia
5/2/2010

I''ve just returned from 13 days at Kicking Horse, B.C. and was very impressed by the ski hill and our accommodation.

We stayed in Glacier Lodge, and had a true ski in/out location. The ski locker room and drying facilities were the best I''ve encountered in 35 years of skiing.

The ski hill is superb for experienced skiers, not really a place to learn to ski though. With something like 70 named double-black chutes in-bounds...nowhere I''ve been comes close to that. Also some excellent blue and black runs as well.

Snow quality and quantity remained good top to bottom throughout the 13 days, even though we only got two small falls of ~10 cm each during our stay. No crowds at all, ski straight onto the lifts every day except Sat. Often found myself with deserted runs, even deserted alpine bowls!

A great place for the serious skier/boarder...I''ll go back next year.

I Got Kicked by the Horse

Written by Lyndell a Skier from Melbourne
8/12/2009

Kicking Horse is one kick-arse ski area, with a reputation for being hard core. If the challenging steeps aren’t humbling enough, then the fitness levels required to ski the 1,260 metres of vertical will make you modest. I’m still mentally scarred from the chipped tooth I scored at Kicking Horse, but I love the place and I’ve managed “to get back on the horse”!

Even though KH is most suited to experts, beginners are well catered for at the base area. Unfortunately for intermediates there is “ground-hog day” at the top because intermediates are mainly limited to the use of one lift, the gondola.  The dry powder makes up for any lack in lift infrastructure.

The village is small and quiet, but if you need action you can go down to the logging town of Golden. “Fresh-meat Monday” in particular is a real eye opener!

The ski resort is only in its infancy and it has so much potential. The huge benefit of it being in a developmental phase is that there are absolutely no crowds, which means more powder for me!

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort has attracted rave reviews after just a few seasons of opening up this awesome vertical, deep powder and spectacular mix of terrain. The onmountain village is growing at a steady pace and the all round experience just keeps on getting better.
