Little Australia On Snow

Written by Sean a Skier from Sydney, Australia
14/4/2010

As well as having Australian owners, of the 2,000 staff, 1,600 are Kiwi or Australian which probably sums up Big White.

Suffering a bit from the US impact of the GFC, it is a little quiet, sometimes too much, but also is value for money. Its height guarantees great snow conditions when other resorts are struggling; the downside is that height comes with frequent zero visibility. Whilst definately a challenge not all is lost though, as with its wide spaced trees (a local phenomenon and not the result of a chainsaw) and a little local knowledge it is still possible to find runs that work on all but the worst days.

The beauty and challenge of ski-ing the snow ghosts is also unique to Big White. Big White, dependant on visibility ranges from wide, empty runs to gladed powder. It is not quite the powder ski of Vail, but definately not the carver of New Zealand and what sums up Big white would be an all round mountain ski.

Sun Peaks for 9 Days in Feb

Written by Sean a Skier from Sydney
31/3/2010

We arrived at Coast Sundance Lodge in the afternoon, having spent the past 5 days in Big White (we had a wonderful time there). First impression of the room was a little dissappointing, but location location, the Lodge itself was great. The Bottom''s Bar attached to the Lodge was also dissappointing from a family perspective, more suited to the younger crowd. Masa''s was much more friendly relaxed & far better service.

The snow & the mountain(s) were to us great, in an average season to the locals. Minimal crowds in a busy period & the runs were great. The Snow host are very good if you are new to the hill & show you places that you may not of ventured to. Kids ski school good, our 7yr old enjoyed herself, plus lots of other non-skiing activities.

Overall a great trip & would recommend Sun Peaks & Coast Sundance to any family.

Big Beautiful White!

Written by Victoria a Skier from Glenhaven, Sydney Australia
6/3/2010

Our last ski holiday was to Big White in Canada - the best family holiday we have ever had!  The staff at Big White Central Reservations were absolutely brilliant - I had sent a multitude of emails asking every question under the sun, and they responded quickly every time, with every bit of information I needed.

Our accommodation was perfect - just what we requested - with easy access to everything.  My kids had a brilliant time in the Kids Club, their instructors were fantastic, and I would highly recommend the complimentary Ski Hosts for a tour around the mountain (especially when visibility isn''t so great!)  We are desperately hoping to go back this year!

Big White out

Written by Jennifer a Skier from Killarney Heights, Sydney
26/2/2010

We took the 5 hour shuttle to Big White after a week in Sun Peaks. This resort is awesome if you have kids. It provides so many choices such as skating, tubing and mini skidoo riding. The night skiing is also good. Trouble for us was the visibility was about zero for 5 days out of 7. When we could finally see, the view was stunning.

A 2 hour shuttle to Silver Star for the day was a highlight and it was co-ticketed. This resort is not quite ski out and you can''t self cater in a standard room.

The runs and variety are both great.

Big White on Christmas Day

Written by Celeste a Skier from Sydney, Australia
8/2/2010

Whilst living in Canada we decided to spend Christmas Day skiing at Mount White.  We could not have had a more fabulous day.  The resort was open but there were not many people about.  I would recommend a sKiing holiday as a way to celebrate Christmas to anyone.  It is a magical experience.

Big Fun in Big White...

Written by Danny a Skier from Melbourne, Australia
5/2/2010

After nearly 30 hours of travelling, we arrived in Big White to the smiles of the young Australians working in Central Reservations. The process of checking into our apartment was hassle-free and fast.

Our apartment was comfortable and we hit the beds for some much needed sleep. Opening the curtains in the morning revealed a perfect sunny day and that we were right in the heart of the Village with the Plaza Chair just steps away!

We began our week with a free tour of the mountain provided by the Big White Snow Hosts - an invaluable experience I highly recommend. After this, we were off to discover it for ourselves.

We spent the rest of the week indulging in tree skiing through the powder, fast cruising on the impeccably groomed blue runs (don’t miss “Cruz The Blues”) and taking Lara’s Gondola down to Happy Valley for après ski, snow tubing, ice skating and chilling out.

The snow falls in abundance and we never encountered a crowd, even though we were there over Christmas/New Year.

It’s a perfect place for a ski holiday and oh so family friendly.

Easy to reach and well worth a visit. You won’t be disappointed!

The Wonders of Big White

Written by Iain a Skier from Noosa, Queensland
5/2/2010

Firstly a huge thank you to Travelplan for the recommendation of Big White ! We had the best time at "big white" great ski fields for all abilities, we will definately return next year and will recommend it to both friends and family. Next year it will be directly to skiing and ski for longer!!!!! Although Sun dance was slightly out of the village, it was worth it, the staff were great and we will stay there again!

Sundance at BigWhite Jan 2010

Written by Janet a Skier from Sydney, Australia
5/2/2010

Our 10 days at Big White were wonderful, even though Big White lived up to it''s name, "Big White Out," as we only saw the sun for a few days.

The Sundance resort was well located and the room and facilities excellent.  Our daughter loved the pool with slide, excellent place for snow fights and meeting others.

Besides the skiing, which was wondeful, there were so many other things to do like tubing, ice skating, dog sledding etc, and I think we did them all.

The staff at Sundance and Big White in general were always extremely helpful.

We can''t wait to return.

Our experience at BIG WHITE

Written by Jim a Skier from Australia
5/2/2010

We are a family of five, mum dad and three kids 16,14,10.

After 3 yrs of Niseko (Japan) we gave Canada a go. Went to Big White.

Stonebridge Lodge excellent esp the hot tub. Our view was a ski run. Great! Snow and facilities excellent .

Our only gripe, apparently common, was very poor visibility on the slopes at least half the time and this is apparently common and the locals often say "big Whitout" this should be told to clients I think.
