Big White is great for families

Just got back from nine days at Big White and can throughly recommend it for a family vacation. Our lodge was wonderfully appointed but a little too far away when we wanted to go out at night. Next time we''d look at something in the Village or with better access to the free bus shuttle or gondola.
The ski school was great. Although we had different instructors each day they were all teaching the same techniques so the experience was consistent. It was refreshing that many of them were older (our first instructor was 77) or retrained from previous careers (Geoff was a truck driver for 20 years). With the smaller class sizes (<6 most classes) and the patience of the instructors my skiing improved greatly.
The kids had a wonderful time. There were activities on every night and they tried them all - tubing, carnival night, skating, mini snowmobiles, etc.
The only downside to the vacation was that we left it to the last night to go night skiing. We ended up in the middle of the crowds who were coming up for the $5 night skiing on Friday nights. All of a sudden the lift lines were long and the runs were crowded with inexperienced (and sometimes inebriated) boarders and skiers. Next time we''ll make sure to go night skiing on Tuesday to Thursday instead.
